I just spoke with a coach/social studies teacher tonight and I now believe more than ever that this is simply unconstitutional. ?The government (OHSAA) can't levy fines without due process. ?With this abomination of a rule, levying fines without any due process is exactly what is being proposed. ?The OHSAA is the government, whether it likes it or not. ?Can you imagine getting a speeding ticket where you weren't given a right to have a trial?

Now, if we can only have a coach, who is also also a lawyer, get tossed from a game and fined $100 by OHSAA. That could be very interesting..... lol

Maybe next year, OHSAA will require umpires to read the Miranda rights to the coaches.

Just curious. Does this "rule" pertain to unpaid asst coaches also.

Ringer: It would have to. They fall under OHSAA bylaws just like all the other coaches. Our school districts already make volunteers pay for the privilege to be a volunteer coach with fingerprints, background checks, PAV training, etc., and now they are subject to un-appealable fines.

If they say ejections are skyrocketing, in what sports is this happening? I've been coaching high school for 10 years and I don't think I have witnessed a single ejection. And does the OHSAA not trust all the doctorate-level school administrators who have multiple degrees in education to supervise and train their coaches? One would think that the OHSAA could trust people with doctorates in education or master's in school or athletic administration and similar degrees to police their own coaches without a centralized bureaucracy levying fines and ordering mandatory $35 classes.

Yeah, good luck with that. Just give the ump a $100 check at the start of the game and you'll be good to go.

Should the umpire be fined for not showing up to a game. Last night at a JV baseball game no umpire showed up. Should he be fined or fired. Tried to call the assignor but didn't return our phone calls. The visiting team drove 1 hour and 15 minutes. Not happy. Embarrassing for the home team. Have not heard if it was the AD, assignor or the umpire at fault.
