Ohio Ice Gray

Ohio Ice Gray played in a one day friendly against three teams ranked in the top ten. We pitched very well starting four different pitchers who all pitched complete games. Several errors cost us a handful of runs and ultimately the chance for a better record. This was a great learning experience for the girls showing them that when you are playing top notch teams that one or two mistakes can and will cost you a game. Our overall record was 1-3 (we actually lost a game that we threw a no hitter in). We recorded 13 hits on the day and held our opponents to 11. Thank you to the Hawks, Stingrays and Valley Extreme for a great day of softball. The reps and experience the girls got from this was invaluable and we appreciate the opportunity to challenge ourselves against great teams and organizations.

Loss vs Stingrays 2-1
Loss vs Hawks 5-1
Win vs Valley 5-4
Loss vs Hawks 4-2

Valley extreme went 0-4 on Saturday, all 4 losses were to top 10 teams. 3 of our 4 were 1 run losses where we held the lead somewhere throughout the game. 2 of them were heartbreaking walk off losses where stingrays and ice were able to get key hits in the bottom of the last inning. I would like to give a shout out to Hawks pitcher and catcher. I don’t think their pitcher threw a pitch the whole game over the middle.(she painted both corners) and their catcher was throwing ropes to 2nd from her knees. I would like to say the stingrays 1st baseman is a tough out but I don’t know that because she never made one. (5 for 5 with 2 doubles and 3 singles). Ice never quit the whole game, we had them down 3 early and they kept chipping away and beat us 5-4. I would also like to say that for 3 one run games where every play mattered I never heard 1 parent, spectator, or coach complain which is unheard of at 10u. Nothing but respect for the Hawks, stingrays, and ice organizations.

Ohio Outlaws Premier - Homan

Looks like a lot of good ball was played over the weekend, I heard Ohio weather was nice and dry so that's a plus! Seen a friendly going on, and a couple others played in some tournaments so Congrats to everyone for a good weekend.

My Outlaws team played in the Kentucky Chrome Invite in Bowling Green, KY. Tournament had 8 teams... 5 solid teams including Birmingham Thunderbolts, Kentucky Chrome, TN Knights Platinum, NKY Swat 2k10 and us. I have to admit, I think this was the best I have seen my team perform on the field together. We started pool play Saturday with a first round matchup against Nationally Recognized and Top Ranked Birmingham Thunderbolts. Let me put something into perspective as well.. if you dont know who the Bolts are, do your research. This team is flawless, makes little to no mistakes, have deep pitching and their kids stroke the ball.. The Bolts have won every single tournament they have entered including every PGF.. So when I said I think my team played exceptionally well this last weekend, I wasn't lying :) ... We played a great game with the Bolts, a base running mistake cost us what could of been a few runs, and a fielding error cost us 2 as well, we played them great but lost 4-1 in pool play. Played a team ive never seen before after that in pool, Kentuckiana Eclipse.. had a good pitcher but we hit 1-10 that game and won 16-0. We ended a 4 seed after pool and got 5 seed Kentucky Chrome off the rip ... Chrome has solid pitching, great defense, super strong catcher and they hit... our pitching was dominant and we found some gaps and pulled out a big first round win 4-1. Onto Sunday we had 1 seed Swat 2k10.. weather took a turn, started raining pretty hard but we played through it and pulled out a 6-0 win.. semi game next vs Thunderbolts... this game here, this was the game I was impressed with my team overall. We jumped on them quick, led the game 2-0 through 2 innings, they scored 1, then tied it in the 4th I think... 2-2 through 4.. we had a runner on third in the 5th but couldnt get her to score... ended up losing 3-2 in a weird fashion.. pitched ball over the catchers head, hit the backstop fence post dead on and the ball rolled all the way to first base by their dug out and the girl scored from second base standing up.. weird way to lose, but its part of the game. lost 3-2 but our defense was on point, had a double play, made every play we could, pitching was dominant and we actually out hit the Bolts. Played Chrome in the losers bracket to get back into the Final and just couldnt get anything going.. kids were gassed, gave the Bolts everything we had and just couldnt recoop from it, lost to Chrome 6-4. These kids played their hearts out and to lose 3-2 to Bolts.. well.. my team is getting stronger and better! We ended up taking third place overall.

I am giving the kids this weekend off, they deserve some rest and times to be kids as well.. we will be back at it next weekend at the Firefighters at Berliner.

Scores from the weekend:
Pool:
Outlaws 1 - Birmingham Thunderbolts 4
Outlaws 16 - Kentuckiana Eclipse 0

Bracket:
Outlaws 4 - Kentucky Chrome 1
Outlaws 6 - NKY Swat 2k10 0
Outlaws 2 - Birmingham Thunderbolts 3
Outlaws 4 - Kentuky Chrome 6

Record: 67-20-2

SGS Magic went 4-1 over the weekend at the Wizards Rizing Stars tournament. We lost to the Finesse Bragg Team 7-4 in the semi-finals. Hats off to them for playing a great game and making it into the championship. Out next tournament will be at the Firefighters Memorial in Columbus in a few weeks.
