Rain-Out/ Cancelled
We are calling this weekends friendly a rain out. We are calling it early, because we have teams traveling good distances, and from outside of Ohio. I am also hoping that by making a decision early, you may be able to find an opportunity to play where there is less rain. I hope you agree or understand that it is a tough decision, and the best decision we can make at this point.

*If you would like for me to send a list of coaches contact information so you can set up games at dryer location, please confirm that you would like to be on, and receive the list by email.

**I will be sending full refunds for the friendly. Please email me the address where you would like the refund to be sent.

Thank you,
Kerry Maher

I have always been told that 1 person says it, then 10 others are thinking it...This friendly has been a great event and I was very disappointed that I could not guarantee better result after the rain. In the past I have prepped all of the fields myself. This year I had more help planned, but still very skeptical that we would be ready to play. Here is my response to a parent that was frustrated by the early decision to cancel the event:

"Please understand I made a difficult decision. This event is not a money making opportunity for me, and I do not have any children participating in the event. I host the event in an effort to get more quality games early in the season...so they have more experience to compete in larger events later in the season. I enjoy watching them play and grow as athletes. It is a disappointment to me to cancel the event.
I have personally worked on improving these fields for 3+ years. When I checked the diamonds after it stopped raining, there were large puddles. Typically when there are large puddles it takes a day and a half or two days of sun and wind to be in a playable condition. When I left the park at dark, small girls 6-8 years old were sinking in the mud. My fear was that teams that would travel a great distance would not be able to play, or would play on terrible field conditions. We do not have Turface or Diamond Dry to use because of the low budget of the event. As little time there is to find others options, I made a decision as early as possible to allow teams any other possible place to play..
We will assess the fields in the coming weeks to determine why they created puddles and continue to improve to quality of the fields."

As a parent and coach, I would rather take the weekend off to practice than play in terrible field conditions, just the sake of playing. As I understand Wizards Elite 03 has some diamonds that can be used for games this weekend. Coaches, if you did not receive the email from their coach, please pm or email me and I will forward their information. I imagine if you are interested you need to act quickly.
Thanks again,
Kerry
