Pitching and Pitchers Discussion 12u Pitching Distance for ASA

I heard tonight from a reliable source that The ASA will change the pitching distance for 12u in 2011 to 43 feet. They will make this change/announcement after the first of the year.

Question, will NSA and the other sanctioning bodies follow suit or will we have 40 feet at some tournaments and 43 feet at others? That would not be cool at all!

no i do not think 12u will go to 43ft. 14u is what you might of heard might be going to 43ft..

I think it would be way to hard for a girl to go from a 11" ball at 35ft to the next year of 43ft with a 12" ball..

Although i wish 10u would go to 40ft with a 11" ball then at 12u stay at 40ft but move on to the 12" ball, then at 14u jump to 43ft.. this would make the most sense to me.

I believe you have been misinformed......12U will be at 40 feet.

Word is, moving 14U to 43 feet is not even going to be discussed by ASA this year.

14U will stay at 40 feet in ASA. - again... just what I am hearing....

I don't believe it for a minute. I guess we'll have to see in January 2011.

Finding it hard to believe 12u would move to 43 feet. As state above, it would be a very tough adjustment for a girl throwing an 11" ball at 35' to go up to a bigger ball (12") and move back to 43' . No Way!

Is middle school ball looking to jump to 43 feet as well?

I'm with everyone else on this one. This would be a suicide move on ASA's part for next year.

There is no way that 12U is going to 43' for next year, or any year for that matter. The question is what ASA will do with 14U for next year. I've heard 40', and I've heard 43'. We'll see I guess, but my dd (13U for next season) has been throwing from 43' since the beginning of August to be prepared.

Heard from ASA reps that it is not even an item of discussion... 14U is staying at 40 feet.

I guess the difference is not more offense. I would believe it would be safety issues. Look at the number of threads that begin with a story of a pitcher taking a line drive to the face and suffering severe injuries.
Girls these days are hitting the ball with a lot more power, and the evolving technology by the bat companies are generating hits coming back at a lot more velocity (again, the hitter has something to do with that). I think the change is due to trying to do something proactive to keep the young ladies playing the game safe.
The move doesn't neccesarily mean more offense... get a pitcher with nasty movement on the ball and the scores will remain low. It is the teams that get jacked up over speed instead of movement, or change of speed that will see an increase in the number of runs they give up.

But, again, I have heard from ASA reps that the matter is not even up for discussion this year....

Talked to Warren Jones he said didn't even think that there was any possibility of moving 14U back at this point. As of last week was not even gonna be a issue at there meeting. Let alone 12U

Forgot the "LOL" part, Leave it at 35' for 10U and 40' for the 12U, in my opinion 14U should be at 43' some of these girls will be in high school already.

I find it hard to believe they are not even going to discuss it when the entire nation will be at 43' for HS girls. I know USSSA is 43' but what about NSA and the others. I can't believe ASA would want to lag everybody else.

I think it would be great if they would just stop meddling with it and leave it at 40'. They won't be happy until they ruin the game like they did volleyball with rally scoring and sloppy hands. JMHO
