How many organizations are going to have a 15u team(s) for 2010 ? FR

Isn't 15u the same as a first year 16u team? They're too old for 14u, so they move up to 16u - where they have two years. Most orgs I know of simply call their first year 16u the "young 16s". Are there that many tournaments that specify a 15u age group? Just asking... :)

The only sanction that has designates a 15U division is USSSA.

Sammy, I wouldn't do that, I thought that I needed to rephrase the question.
DD is 14 now and playing up at 16u and I think that a 15u might be the way to go.FR

Yes, but his question is addressing the fact that his dd is a first year 16 next year. He is looking for a team that has girls all the same age that they can move up with.

The Valley Storm will be putting together a 15u team next year for the same simple reason, and that is to put a team together that can move up together

The Ohio Dragons will have 1st and 2nd year 16 year teams next year. They will also have 2 or 3 14U teams, 2 12s and are starting to talk about a 10U team. The current 10U team will move up to 11.

Sapphires 14u will move up and be "15u" next year. Same goal of staying/developing together till 62u, when they will all retire together and collect SSS (Softbal Social Security).

Marion Diamonds Breham is a 15U team that played at Gapps and they will have at least one 15U team next year, since we had some 14U's playing on that team.

I can think of a projected one for next year that will be a 15-U NIT (mine the last weekend of June). It will be USSSA sanctioned and will have an excellent prize package with a direct berth to the 15-U Nationals for the winner and runner-ups.

I know the USSSA encourages having the "odd" year age groups if/when possible. In an area where a lot of teams participate in USSSA this is possible. With USSSA only in select pockets of the state in Ohio, it might be tougher for a couple of seasons until the program gets off and running.

One of the different things about 15-U is that 14/13-U's are also eligible. This would be a great place to play up later in the qualifying part of the season to test the waters without being in there against an "older" 16-U team.

The Heart of Ohio Explosion will be 15 next year. We will be playing 16U tournaments because that is how ASA is set up. We played some 16U this year.

Mike - My DD's team played primarily an ASA schedule, with the intent of college exposure. There were three showcase tournaments that nearly every NCAA and NIAA college coach in Ohio and surrounding states regularly attended. In the interest of college recruiting, there was no need to split the first year 16s into a 15u age group at these tournaments. As a matter of fact, a 15 year old kid playing a competitive schedule with a mix of 16s is far more impressive to a college coach. They want to see their potential recruits tested. IMO, the even numbered age divisions have worked very well for this purpose. While a few powerhouse teams do play up, it's usually at less competitive tournaments.

U-Trip for baseball is another story. 15u is very common in baseball, but there are FAR more teams in travel baseball, and the talent spread is much closer than in fastpitch softball.

I applaud you for providing a venue for girl's fastpitch. It's a TON of work, and the more outlets there are for the girls to be involved keeps them from straying to the "dark side". :)
