I had the pleasure of attending the NSA state tourament this weekend to watch the 18u bracket. I saw many outstanding women and great teams giving it their all trying to claim the ohio state title. I was impressed by several players alot of whom I heard or read about during highschool season. There was one battery that surprised me. I did not see their first game but watched them on sat. and sun. along with the rest of the winners bracket. This same battery played every inning of every game, six in all.
I heard they beat one of the Edge teams 6-1. Then beat N. O. Heat 3-0 in their first game sat. then the Sting 1-0 in ohio tie breaker that evening to stay in the winners bracket. Then faced the Illusion sun. and lost 1-0 when time expired. I heard that the illusion's best pitcher had just arrived to start in this game. While the Illusion waited until 5:15 to see who would make it out of the losers bracket the Lasers Black had to play the winner of Sting and Express. Black and Sting faced off for the finals of the losers bracket to see who plays Illusion for the championship. Mind you it has been 95 + degrees and no shade all weekend. They beat the Sting 1-0 in 5 inn. to advance to the championship game.
As I watched this battery work the pitcher seamed to be throwing as hard or harder and as effective as she did on sat. and the catcher looked as sharp and seaned to have the batters guessing all day. Since earlier games had started late and went in to tie breakers the championship game didn't get started untill almost 6:00. Both pitchers gave up runs in the first couple of innings with the Lasers leading 7-4 untill the Illusion tied it up in the 4th on a miscue by the Lasers. then both teams dueled untill the 8th during ohio tie breaker. In the top half of the 8th the Illusion scored on a sacrifice fly for out number two and were retired on a routine fly to left. In the bottom of the frame the pitcher hits a linedrive single to left center to score the tieing run. The next batter bunts on to load the bases when the defence holds the runner at third. The next batter stikes out. That brings the top of the order she hits a grounder to 2nd, with no chance to get the runner going home she gets the out at first, game over. I must remind you that the pitcher for the Illusion this was only her second game of the weekend and I don't think she batted in either game.
I heard from some of the fans that the pitcher was from stark county and one of the premire pithcers in highschool. I think she I playing college ball at a DIII school. The catcher from near warren and is playing DI at Cleveland State. Amazing battery, looked as good or better the last game than the first. Six games. One weekend. 95+ heat and no shade. Co-Champs WOW.

It sounds like you know this team more than you let on but I will agree with you that they definatly displayed the intensity at which it takes to win at this level. To get past the Sting and Illusion is certainly no easy task and to do it with 9 players and injuries all weekend in 90+ degree heat certainly shows the commitment and determination this group of ladies have for the game. The Stefano girl who pitched every inning seemed to never wear down. You are also right about the catcher, she is the Gordon girl that is going to Cleveland State along with their SS and CF from Pickerington North. Solid team with great coaching. It was a pleasure to compete against them.

I was also impressd with the Illusion team as well. They seemed to be in the same boat with only one pitcher as well until Sunday. Very strong team and well coached. I saw on the other thread that after the first game both coaching staffs agreed to the co-championship due to the fact of the late time and not wanting to risk any further injuries by pushing these kids any longer in the extreme heat. Now that is truly sportsmanship above the standard. Good luck to both teams the rest of the summer.

There were a number of great games in the 18U age group.

The Bandits lost 1-0 to the Illusion and 2-1 to MVXpress. These games were just great. Excellent close games with huge pressure!

The Illusion had 3 double plays. And ended one inning on an illegal substitution by the Bandits. Super pressure game.

And the Xpress tied their game on a catcher interference call with bases loaded. Then they won on a base hit. Fantastic game. Loads of cheering and yelling and intensty.

These games will certainly prepare the ladies for the future competition.

Many other games were decided by 1 run and tye breakers.
