clarifications

fields froze solid last night, preventing drainage. 3 fields were better then the rest, but still soaked.

Tomorrow, park manager canceled morning session due to the temp not getting over 40 till after 11am thus he can't drag the fields early enough, plus it's risky starting games at 10am that cold. Hard to switch bus times etc. to change start times. Many morning teams are making arrangements among them selves

Afternoon session for varsity should happen, questionable for jv, will know by noon for jv.

Sunday 1-4pm, 4 schools are playing varsity and jv hopefully [weather is questionable again.]

Next year, if we hold the event, to avoid this problem, we'll either:1. only have 8 schools with jv or 2. have 16 schools play friday, then play all afternoon on saturday, with JV's playing at their high schools. This will avoid a frigid morning temps. Very frustrating day, been on the computer, phone and text non-stop since 11am.

fields are totally soaked, more sun that gets on them the more the fields are drawing up moisture and pudding the fields. Field director said he's never experienced anything like it.
I feel horrible, but it's out of my control. Maybe this is too big a format to attempt for this area, people can get one field ready, but 8 is difficult if weather is bad.

Sunday games: maumee/whitmer/southview/ND are still ON at this point, stay tuned. Sincerely, Jim

First this is still a great idea and last year I had a blast. Perhaps it might help and I know this is not in the spirit of this, but make it a regular season high school deal. Like SUA's tournament, same schools from all over the place, the right people running it, it would be huge!!!

thanks Uber, i've thought about that very idea, just not sure how many teams are available to do something like that. I know Genoa does a tournament deal also.

we could tweak it up, and avoid early saturday games all together. Rolf could get a field or two ready today [like a lot of high school fields were] but when you talk about 8 and the cold temp it was impossible. Weirdest thing i've ever saw, the more the sun got on the field, the more soaked they became, the stone must have been holding a ton of moisture.

Sunday games are 1 till 4pm. Maumee and Southview will play ND and Whitmer, 1:20 each team. thanks for everyone's understanding and positive comments by the coaches, it's appreciated after a tremendously frustrating two days.

Definitely disappointed that it couldn't happen. I was looking forward to it all week. However, don't give up on it Jim. People will still schedule scrimmages at the same time and they still won't play if the weather is bad. If the weather is good, they may as well be playing in a Preview. I think the format is fine as well. By booking the JV teams, it gives you some cushion if you can't get enough fields ready.....just cancel the JV's. Same # of Varsity get to play.

Keep at it Jim.

It's still a great idea JIm, stick with it. Adjusting to Saturday afternoon sounds like a good move. Heck, you can't control the weather, and getting 1 or 2 fields ready is totally different than 8.
