Beginning in the fall of 2016 the Ohio Hawks will establish a Gold program to enhance and provide better college recruiting scholarship opportunities for our players. As such, we will be fielding one Gold team at each recruiting year.

In the past four years, we have helped placed 82 Hawks into college softball programs, 21 at the Division I level. We currently have 11 players signed or verbally committed to Division 1 programs this season in our organization. We have 14 additional players playing now that we anticipate accepting offers by the end of the fall season. DI schools where Hawks players are currently playing or are signed are: University of Kentucky, Charleston Southern (2), University of Louisiana-Monroe, St. Peters, Tennessee State (2), Morehead State, Marshall, Ohio University (2), Winthrop, Bowling Green, University of Toledo, Miami of Ohio, University Tennessee - Martin, University of Dayton, and Wright State.

Requirements for Gold team players will be as follows:
Players will take hitting lessons on a regular basis from either Coach Hutchinson, Coach Lenos, or an approved established outside hitting instructor such as Tim Duncan, Jodi Hall-Curnutte, Ali Viola, etc.. Pitchers will work on a regular basis with an established pitching coach like Gillis, Landers, Jodi Hall-Curnutte, etc.(this list is representative of instructors we know are reputable and teach accordingly.)

Players will be required to participate in speed, strength and agility programs during the off-season with their teams or HS teams. Players will engage in regular contact with schools for their recruiting advancement and attend camps all fall and winter. Players will schedule and attend recruiting camps over the winter camp season.

Ohio Hawks Gold designated teams will play in 3-4 fall showcases from the following: Stingrays, Diamond 9 Orlando, Scenic City TN, Circle City, IN, Fall Brawl, Atlanta Legacy, Triple Crown and others.

We will establish an aggressive summer schedule designed to promote player recruiting and player development and growth. Summer tournaments/showcases to include the Dayton Metro, Scenic City, Atlanta Legacy, ASA Hall of Fame, Pennsbury Showcase, Demarini Showcase, Stingrays, ASA Gold Qualifiers.

Our 18u teams goal will be to qualify and play in the ASA 18u Gold tournament. All other Gold teams will go to the ASA/USA tournament for their age group.

The following are the established Gold teams for 2017:

18u
2016/17/18 - Ohio Hawks Gold - Lenos
2017/18 - Ohio Hawks Gold - Hutchinson

16u
'00 Ohio Hawks Gold - Lenos
'01 Ohio Hawks Gold - Wagner

14u
'02 Ohio Hawks Gold - Newton
'03 Ohio Hawks Gold - Rubal

We will continue to have teams within the organization that are not designated as Gold but will play at a very high level and have success with player recruiting. At the younger ages we will have teams designated as Gold that will be in training to step into our 14u program as soon as they are eligible. They will have higher training requirements and schedule designed to prepare them for their 14u Gold year.

Coach AJ Young will be heading up our 12u Gold team - they have already begun to sign some very talented players - reach out to him for a tryout schedule at CoachYoung@Ohiohawks.com. Coach Dave Mackintosh will be heading up our 10u Gold development team. Both teams will be playing in the ASA/USA Nationals next year. Contact Dave at CoachMackintosh@ohiohawks.com

So you are saying that you have to go to these sorry instructors to play???

I believe that they are simply trying to ensure that the players are consistently working on their hitting. Note that they added "or an approved outside hitting instructor.."
They are not forcing any player to take lessons from them.
Here's the way I figure it....if somebody isn't working hard, it will show on the field and they will not be playing much. However, they don't want that person to bring the team down.
I know of many travel teams who want their players consistently working on their game.

Hey Ace, who does your DD play for?

Ace, who are you, and where do you instruct? What do you instruct? Which organization are you affiliated with? From the sounds of it, you are the guy DD's should be going to...so lets have it...reveal yourself so Ohio softball may flourish on the elite level!

So you are saying that you have to go to these sorry instructors to play??? What an absolute joke. This is what this has come to now...what if i dont like what those instructors teach...which i dont. Absolute joke.
Ace Could say there trying to get themselves some work, but I doubt it.Just making sure when your a Gold team player your doing your work.Applaud Hawks for finally overcoming the talent dilution by consolidating the ladies that want to represent the Gold teams. For the Hawks to keep getting the invited to premier events I think it's essential,Taking a team to Scenic/Legacy and getting beat up dosnt cut it.Good luck Hawks w your Gold teams

Thanks Oki, you are exactly right. We need to be better for the players that work hard. We are reducing our org footprint and only maintaining Gold and very solid non-Gold teams.

The intent here is that they are working on their game ... notice it says - with outside approved instructors - guys like Duncan, Gillis, Viola, etc - the entire intent is that they work with someone and are accountable to the team and their teammates. Being on a Gold team that plays the schedule is expensive, time consuming and an investment for 12-14 families. A couple players not doing their part lets everyone down.

We just do not want the 'I hit with my dad every night' player.

BTW: I charge $20 for 2 hours - that is 45 min w/ me in a net, and 45 to an hour min in the cage with me and 1 or 2 other players putting into practice. I gave 2 young players 3 lessons each this week - 2 hours each session - total charge $40. Seems fair.

My daughter has players travel ball for 6 years, she is a second year 14u player. She has gone to several instructors over the years. She recently stated working out with coach lenos. The sessions are by far the best I have seen. Doug has a way of making the lesson fun but at the same time brining out the intensity and making my daughter a better hitter each lesson. To me that what a private session is all about. The lessons are to be an hour long but we end up working longer because it's such a fun time and again that's what this game is about. I have no hesitation saying Doug is a great coach and one on one instructor. Feel free to private email me for any more input or advice on the subject.
