Looks like Greenville could have used a few of those 95 runs against Lebanon. ? ?Must have been a good game. ?

Hamilton verses Fairfield

Newspaper article: 4-5-06
Small ball gives Hamilton 2-1 victory over Fairfield

Double, bunt, single enough for HHS win

HAMILTON ? There were two long balls in Hamilton High?s 2-1 Greater Miami Conference softball victory Wednesday over visiting Fairfield. One left the yard, and one didn?t. Ultimately, the one that came up short went the furthest in determining the final outcome.

Senior Brooke Boswell?s homer over the fence in right-center field to lead off the second inning gave Fairfield a 1-0 lead, but it was sophomore Rachel LeMaster?s double to open the bottom of the fourth inning that sparked a winning two-run rally for Big Blue.

After falling behind in the count, Rachel LeMaster got a pitch she could handle and lifted a towering fly to left field. It gained altitude and landed at the base of the left-field fence, and LeMaster coasted into second for a leadoff double.

?I think I?ve hit better balls this year,? LeMaster said. ?I felt like I got under it. I thought it was going to be a really high pop-up. I didn?t think it was going that far.?

With no outs and a runner in scoring position, Hamilton managed to do something coach Steve Heckman said his team repeatedly failed to do in a 1-0 GMC loss to Sycamore on Tuesday. It succeeded in moving the runner up with a bunt.

Runners on the corners became runners on second and third when Ryder stole second uncontested. Senior Mimi Mahon then brought both LeMaster and Ryder home when she ripped a single to left field.
