Our 8U team this weekend played in a tournament, one of there players hit a shot over the fence, on her way home after rounding 3rd her coach gives her a high five, make no mistake there was no assistance given to her on the base paths just a simple congratulatory high five as she passed. The coaches from the opposing team and even a coach from another one of this organization other teams storm the diamond demanding this be an out due to a high five by the coach prior to touching home. This issue was taken all the way to the tournament director to get clarification. Ruling was home run stands. The problem I have is with those coaches. Instead of letting a little 8 year old girl have her moment for the first home run she has ever hit, to an ego trip. Its supposed to be about the girls FYI!

That's the big problem in kids games today...coaches/parents, whatever, letting the girls know it's about WINNING at any cost...you know, we're close on time so let's stall! Some tactics included, everyone step out and tie a shoe during your at bat....sad little people who want to win so bad they will take any/all the fun from the girls.

Ruling was home run stands.

Glad to see it stood. I thought you were going to get on here and brag about your child's HR, lol, not read about this! This is kind of sad to read.

Too bad we have to have such a PC controlled atmosphere. Name the team. Perhaps the coaches will get the hint that this type of action just makes them look like A:mad::mad:es.

Not going to name any names or teams. They know who they are. I dont have a kid on the team i coach older girls in our organization. Just thought this should be put out there. Maybe they will read this and reflect back on there actions and realize this is about the girls and not our egos!

They need to be called out for being Idiots!!!!
It would be one thing if it WAS AN ACTUAL RULE & they wanted to follow those rules...........
BUT, someone (at any age) trying to protest or make a call for someone getting a high five or a pat on the back while rounding the bases after a HR are Idiots!!!!

That rules is for coaches stopping runners from advancing or pushing them to continue on! I don't even see why people want to act so crazy!

I hate to hear things like this but have see way too many situations similar in my coaching time. Today my 14u team is playing our first game in bracket play. We are the 1 seed playing a 4 seed so I understand they want to upset us and make a name for there selves. Understandable! Our #7 hitter in the lineup comes up to bat and after the first pitch he sprints out to the umpire like someone stole his sack lunch. Our players uniform # is 10 and our scorekeeper accidentally put #8 on the lineup sheet. Not a big deal but this guy thought he could possibly get a forfeit for this. Needless to say the umpire says no big deal. After looking at the lineup sheet he submitted to our team and the umpires we noticed they had no numbers for any of there players. After the inning I took there lineup sheet to the umpire and asked why there players didn't have uniform numbers on the sheet? Really didn't care but had to do it. While standing in the 3b coaching box I watch this guy scramble around frantically getting all his players numbers on the sheet, I'm chuckling of course! After getting all the numbers he walks over and says here ya go coach, I got the numbers. My response, I'm ok we don't need that! Look on his face was priceless but I had to do it! Lol

The offending team at 8u needs called out and called out LOUDLY. That would help stop the insanity .

I think the TD, upon hearing of the particulars of this appeal, should have pulled those coaches aside and chewed their butts off, and then thrown them out of the tournament. Not the team, but the coaches.

Tell them not to show up at any of your tournaments until they learn the rulebook and some sportsmanship.

Chances of this happening are slim but TDs have the power, they just need to use some of it.

I happen to be there and was watching both games that were going on,on the 8U fields and seen this girls hit. Great job to this girl! How many 7 and 8 year old know that know one can touch them before they cross the plate? I'm sure not many, but after that both those teams will know going forward. Super glad they gave her the home run, well deserved..

So the adult coaches of the Ohio Starz attempted to nullify an over the fence by an 8 year old on a technicality , thats not even a rule .. NICE WORK !!!

That's just so flat out embarrassing. I mean so shameful. What makes it even worse is that the coaches thought that was an actual rule.

PS. Even it were a rule...I mean 8yo. Over the fence. Just let it be.
