No.

But I would definately do everything I could do to instigate a fight between two middle aged men over this, or anything else really, if the opportunity ever presented itself. ;&

If this really happens...

would you want your DD to play for either of these coaches?

would you want this poached player back?

Only the winner.

If the guy my kid got poached from wins we are going back. No question.

if he loses? Seems to me he let the girl get poached for one reason or another...

if I won the fight I wouldn't want your daughter back since you wanted to leave. A$$ whooping given would be the only thing I wanted not the family that wanted to leave.

I guess I am a bit old fashioned here but I believe that "poaching" is "unethical coaching". We all work so hard to develop players and then you have a certain class of vultures who choose to try to benefit from the hard work of others rather than coaching up their own players and coaches. I actually had one of the parents from my org. just this past week inform me that one such coach from another org. which I will not mention got a list of all of our players within a certain age group and called each of the players and invited them to their orgs. tryouts. Also found out that the same org. contacted our 10U head coach in February and asked him to come to their org...highly unethical in my opinion!

Poaching? It's tryout season, isn't it actually a one yr contract? With chance for extension based on coaching and such... Maybe they thought the grass was greener!

Coaches don't "steal" players....players leave. Anyway, I've heard threats but I've never heard nor seen a fight due to a player switching teams.

Yes.

Typically, and thankfully, when you're talking about adults who are about to start hitting each other one is scared and the other one is pretty glad he is scared so nothing happens.

Not sure why any of these things are considered unethical.

At the end of the season we would like to invite you to our tryouts..........how is that bad.

I actually find the idea that you do not want any of your players going anywhere......oh wait except the ones you can upgrade........they are allowed to go elsewhere. It is a 2 way street and always will be.

And as far as calling a coach. Did they want them to leave that season or the next? That season is not cool. But these are only one year agreements. At the end of each year everyone should be looking at their goals and evaluating if the team they are on fits those goals.

Of course families are free to go wherever they want the next year and, if they're not happy where they are, they by all means should. But same as I don't think it is very ethical for a company to proactively call another company's employees to get them to leave and switch companies, I don't think this is very ethical either. And anytime prior to tryout time is just plain wrong, as it will likely totally disrupt any chemistry on their current team.

I agree with you coach but it happens all the time in the business world and sports world at all levels. The business world calls them head hunters and sports world call them scouts...

If you are a talent (especially; if your talent is hurting the competition) the opposition knows who you are and they are looking to get stronger by bringing in the lock down sales person, top gun skill trades person, bartenders, cooks/chef or a top athlete.

I guess over the years I have been blessed to not have run into a lot of these situations in sports or as a manager. I have had players profiles pulled while we were at events or contact made with friends of friends with our players but never lost one nor tried to gain one (outside of tryouts).

Basically; its about building relationships (sports and business alike). It does not always mean you will keep a player/employee but; if you have a good relationship with the player if they do leave there are times when/if they do come back with more appreciation for what the team or employer can offer.

Also, when done properly you do not have to worry about players ...you will have plaenty to choose from come tryouts and little holes to fill...
