One of my players sent me an email this evening with a cause she is supporting. She is collecting ****** equipment for the children of a country called Dominica. It would be easier to let you read for yourself. If you're interested in donating, please bring your old equipment to the:
Middletown Sport and Fitness Center
800 2nd Street
Middletown, Ohio 45044
For those of you who have played in SDS Indoor events, its our facility. Heres the mail:
Dear Gregg,
Could you please send this email out to all of our SDS 14u players and the teams that are coming to our all-nighter this weekend?
Hello. My name is Amalia Stevens and I am an eighth grader at Talawanda Middle School. My dad will be going to Dominica, a small island country in the Caribbean, with Miami University's Geography department, which has been sponsoring a Spring Break workshop on the island for the past four years.
The Miami students and the instructors, Thomas Klak and Charles Stevens(my dad), have relationships with the schools in the village of Gran Fond that includes a matching funds campaign to help the children in the village afford their school fees and attend school. The Miami students also bring things to the school like chalk and school books to help the school. This year the Miami students and the instructors would like to help the students in Gran Fond with their athletics by bringing soc cer balls and cleats that American students are no longer using. Like all kids, the students in Gran Fond love to play sports but they are not as rich as most Americans and cannot afford to buy sports shoes or good soc cer balls.
My dad was going to deflate my old soc cer ball and take my old cleats and tennis shoes with him to give to kids who otherwise play soc cer in the street in their bare feet. I thought, Well that will only provide a few kids with shoes and balls so why not make it a bigger charity project. If you have some old soc cer balls, cleats, or just plain tennis shoes that you are willing to donate, please bring them to the SDS all-nighter this Saturday.
If you would like to know more about the project or Dominica, follow the links below.
