Actually our coach has a slightly different philosphy........

You attend the sports that are in season.

My daughter is missing some practices due to basketball committments, others are missing due to ******, there is CYO basketball still going, AAU basketball is just starting. Many are starters and are not losing their jobs by finishing a committment they started in Dec/Jan when softball was shut down.

Our first tournament will be in may, i would expct all girls to be there by end of April.

My opinion is at 12u, im not ready to choose one sport and be done.....I dont see it being abused on our team.

Has this team played a lot of games already. Have positions even been anounced. Is it a matter of not playing at all or not playing the position you think she should be playing. These kinds of questions usually don't start until June.

If you came onto an already established team that was looking for a few fill-ins, unless your daughter is an absolute stud, she probably isn't going to knock one of their starters off the top spot in the spring time. You have to find a team where she WILL get playing time, look for teams that are asking for your daughter's specific position. As annoying as it is to ALL the coaches, you have to be flexible with your players or you won't have a team. Coaches HATE when their players miss practices and try to use rules to get everyone to show up. Honestly, if you have a girl who is your best hitter and stud catcher or something, you are not going to boot her off the team for missing practices due to a prior committment to another sport. Alot of times (and I'm not saying it's you) parents have differing opinions on the abilities of their child as opposed to the coach. If you are unhappy now, I would say get out because you will only be miserable the whole summer. Otherwise, bite your lip and let your daughter's abilities speak for themselves.

Not to take away from "moms" post but why do coaches settle for the favorite players? As a coach if you bring a player on to be an OF and you notice that she actually moves to the ball alot better than your so called starting short stop. Then why don't you try the new player at short and put your short out in the OF? Do coaches really think size and age matters? I've seen 13u players move and make better plays at practice than the 14u and then tournament time the 13u's are sitting or in the OF and the 14us are playing and making errors. Why wouldn't you give a player a chance?

Sounds like you are getting an early feel of what the summer is going to be like. Might think about looking for another team real soon if things don't change quick. JMHO
