Akron, OH--The Akron Racers Charities, a non-profit, 501c3 organization, launched the much anticipated Firestone Stadium Players Plaza at the 2010 Akron Softball Hall of Fame Banquet. The Plaza provides an expanded entrance to the Stadium and will serve as a commemorative footprint to the rich 85-year history of one of the nation's most celebrated softball facilities.

"During the spring and summer, there isn't a day that goes by that someone doesn't tell me a story about the day they played at Firestone Stadium," commented Joey Arrietta, ARC President. "This idea has been on the drawing board for a few years and its time has come. I'm excited about the response I have received from players, coaches, sponsors, teams and fans."

The money collected will build the Plaza, the ARC Clubhouse and batting cages. The clubhouse and cages will be built down the left field line beyond the current Racers Merchandise Garage. The ARC Clubhouse will host hospitality and special events during numerous tournaments scheduled each year including the OHSAA State Softball Tournament. The batting cages will serve the countless number of teams that
play at Firestone Stadium every year.

The Akron Racers Charities programs include the ?Together Against Breast Cancer Project? that raised $18,000 this past summer for the AGMC Muffins for Mammograms program. This program provides mammograms for underinsured area residents. The ?Together? program has been instrumental in providing funding for various AGMC projects including a $25,000 contribution for the hi-tech audio visual equipment currently being used in the Family Conference Room at the Breast Health Center.

The Plaza, ARC Clubhouse and batting cages are being funded through the Akron Racers Charities Firestone Stadium Facilities Enhancement Initiative. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by December 2011.

Bricks are being sold for $100 and can be purchased by sending in the attached form or by calling 330.376.8188.
