I think a good travel team does not have a Parent for a coach. That is the first thing you should ask and know when to walk away. Parents have his/her daughters best interest at heart.

I remember one year my dd made the Lasers and the first thing the coach said to me was "My dd is the pitcher". That was the indicatation that the team was not for us.

This is not always true. It is possible to be objective and still have a daughter on the team. Granted that isn't always the case but it does happen...we are lucky enough to have found that.

The other thing with parent/coaches is they are tougher on their kid then the rest if the team. I was bad about it last year, and still see it now. You expect more out of your kid, but you need to be the same to all the ladys. Yea, the coaches kid gets treated different but the more you treat them like all the players the easier it is to show you are objective.

I guess I get to be classified as a part-time moron. I'm the dad who gets asked to help at practice and run a station before games. Even got to coach a base when one of the coaches was late getting to a game. I like being a part-time moron, I get to help out and then get to hang out along the foul lines during the games. I think this really gives me a good perspective of the actual abilities of the girls on the team. Best of both worlds. :)

Us too! But they are few and far between. Unfortunately, finding someone to devote this much time and energy to the girls when they don't have a dd on the team, is a rare thing. Hats off to those that do!

I am a moron, Mostly because I have a DD on the team and I do not play her much at all! A matter of fact she wants to become a coach. The wife not only thinks I am a moron she wants to know where the extra softball equipment comes from and who paid for it.
I have proven I have not given my DD the special treatment but now feel I may have cheated her and that too makes me a moron, at least what the wife says. Where can I buy that book?
