For me the most exciting sport to watch in person is NHL Hockey. NFL football is a very close second but if you add in the tailgating then overall it would be my winner.

Re: ALL TIME FAVORITE SPROT AND/OR TEAM

going back a ways my fav team is the Celtics of the mid-late 80's . Bird Mchale and the Chief. Battling Dr J in the east and magic out west. The 90' Red's Team was special also. Oh I forgot the # 1 all time special --1991-92 Ky Wildcats Rick Pitino takes several unheralded Ky kids (Farmer, Feldhouse, and Pelphrey , along with sean woods (ind) and Jamal Mashburn )and leads Ky to the Elite 8 where they lose in what was arguably the greatest college BB game ever played 104-103 in the last game of legengary broadcaster Cawood Ledford . The team was called " the Unforgetables" . I remember crying , alone in my car during the post game show. **** If you don't get it , think if OSU had ohio kids starting at nearly every position and lost to Michigan on a 65 yard field goal at the buzzer. A signed poster from the 4 kids from Ky/Ind is one of my prized possesions. The 75 reds were special also. Worthy of mention is last years 12u Wild thang group of girls. Coaches , parents and girls were on the same page 99% of the time. We won games that were "tossups" all year long. Things just seemed to go our way. Was great fun. MD

The RAIDERS of the 70's what a crew. Had to give the Snake (Ken Stabler) and the boys beer at the half since 1/2 of them showed up drunk Tatum, Hendricks, Hayes, just to name a few. If they would not have gotten shafted in a couple Championship games would have been team of the 70's Oh well
:)

Hmmm,..tough call,...NOT !!! It's NASCAR BABY !! I grew up with racing and there's not a better sportsman dead or alive than Richard Petty. On tough times now but the Petty family was very responsible, with others, for bringing auto racing to the forefront of major sports. No it will never be bigger than the NFL or Major League Baseball, but it's a great "BE THERE" sport. It definitely loses a little on TV unless your a real fan.

Great question Crushgirl!

The 70's were a magical time for me as far as sports teams were concerned, being 10 years old at the start of a new decade and living in NE Ohio we didn't have a lot going on with our Cleveland teams but when I saw the Big Red Machine play for the first time I was hooked, Rose, Perez, Gullet, Morgan and my favorvite Johnny Bench, who I pretended I was everytime I got behind the plate on my little league team.

In Basketball its the Lakers, West, Wilt, Goodrich, Harriston, Baylor and co.

But my all time favorites has to be the Cowboys, hey they were labeled America's team right! how could you go wrong here.

Starting with stone faced headcoach Tom Landry, he led the Cowboys to five Super Bowls in the seventies wininng two of them,

The Doomsday defense with names like Howley,Waters, Harris, Too Tall and one of my favorites LeeRoy Jordan a undersize middlelinebacker that wasn't afraid to put a whoppin on guys a lot bigger then himself.

I would set garbage cans in the back yard and try to hit them with a football from various distances while pretending to be Staubach, if you would have been there you might have heard my best Pat Summeral voice saying
"Staubach on the play Action to Garrison drops back to throw has time, throws , hits DREW PEARSON AT THE THIRDY THE TWENTY ONE MAN TO BEAT HE'S AT THE TEN, FIVE, TOUCHDOWN!"

Once Staubach threw a bomb that hit the top of the can shot out about 25 feet to the left, right though the neigbors garage window, that interception really hurt because my dad busted my tail good!

I thought about saying I didn't throw it Roger did,but he was pretty upset with me and I felt that might just make things worse.

At that time those guys were larger then life, as you get older things change your outlook on life and its piorities is different, I follow the Indians and Browns but the passion and excitment is not the same.

Thanks Crushgirl for allowing me to take a walk down memory lane.

Stanley Cup Playoffs 1995 NJ Devils with a most exciting run including sweep over the Red Wings!!! It's go time right now, but my boys are down 2-0 to the dreaded Rangers.

Was really cool as we hosted their Cup Party right after the clinch as they stayed with us the entire playoff run. Party started at 2 in the morning, they let the fans about 100 outside at that hour, come into it that were waiting at the hotel and after about 20 minutes asked them to leave in which they did with ease...

It was really neat to see and get pics with the cup and the guys...

The beauty of Hockey teams staying vs teams like the Cowboys is no one really knows the players or coaches and leave them alone. Now the Cowboys on the other hand... Holy crap they travel with fans that are Nomads and are Stalkers....
