i suppose this is a double negative but can anyone
recommend any good well run B level tournaments
or A level tournaments that regularly have B or open pools?

we are a very young 14u team that got kicked around pretty
good in A level 12u last year.

....preferably within two hours of the toledo area.

thanks, jay

Jay, I know how this is going to sound and I'm not trying to offend but...Any USSSA tournaments here locally are fairly low level. I seen you guys in ASA regional qualifiers, that can be tough. Look into U trip states or SGS Shootout neither is loaded and the Shootout is cool they seed into "A" and "B" brackets for elimination play.

thanks guys. we were in the 12UA shootout last year and won a few games so the 14UB should fit nicely.

i think that's our best fit (i know the sharks memorial day tourn has A and B pools as well) is doing B brackets in A tournaments.

just a pet peave, there's gold and elite teams in the 14UB bracket for the link above. crazy unless i'm missing something...

thanks guys!

Any Toledo tournament run by Denny Rose or Mark Tooman will be very competitive, even the B brackets. BG has some nice less competitive and fostoria glass festival is nice also. Also check out the Irish John Farley tournament. The Utrip states is a smaller type tournament that might be a good fit then play in 13u world series.

I always laugh when people say you need to play a certain sanction over another to play "top level" softball, 99 percent of teams in this area it doesn't matter.

Jay, Have I ever steered you wrong? I know they are trying to take this away from your original question. The glass fest is a good suggestion, other then that play USSSA. Its a good fit for your team. It allows for the High school step back rule and the tournament fields arent as deep.

Stop being so sensitive Coach. USSSA offers a "B" bracket in some tournaments and ASA qualifiers which Jay played doesnt. Also USSSA states are broken into North/South, ASA states is statewide. USSSA has a LOT more community based teams entered into their tournaments then ASA. I always "Laugh" when people call themselves a "Travel" team then don't leave their area but 1 time a year. Maybe they should call themselves a "Travel to and from Rolf park" team.

You know I love you Maumee, but I really wasnt trying to downgrade USSSA they offer some oppurtunites to community based teams that ASA doesnt, whats wrong with that?

The words "Gold" and "Elite" really mean nothing unless it's a true 18u Gold team. And at 12 and 14u, it's just a name.

it sure as heck should. i should not see those words in any teams title in a B bracket. the word should mean something.

uber/maumee,

looking on the utrip site, doesn't look like the tune-up is split into A and B, correct?

I agree. They should, but they don't. There are teams who add those names to their name to make the team look better in order to try to draw more talent. However, just because I say I'm Wonder Woman, doesn't make it true.

Come on Maumee.... you should know that the Irish Tournament is the Jim Wilde Tournament.... John Farley is probably rolling over in his grave since he was the ASA District Commissioner for 55 years.... The John Farley Tournament is always ASA hosted by no other than the Wizard program!!!!! (Just in case you didn't know).

Why do you think I'm being sensitive uber, I said toomans tournaments which are Asa along with shoot out and tune up are highly competitive and they are. Heck coach Day didn't even win the shoot out all the time with his top team a dew years ago. I also said the utrip states were fairly easier competition. I still say 99 percent of nwo teams would be served by most tournaments regardless of sanctioning. And any time I can play competitive teams at Rolf or lcrc why would I want to travel farther? I've also seen community based teams beat bigger travel teams, coach kontak had some tuff genoa teams few years back. I just don't think you can throw out blanket statements and I'm not downing Asa or boosting usssa I don't care about that ****

Jay, if you email Denny and ask to be put in an easier bracket for tune up he will. Many tournaments will help out if you let them know in advance. Those fostoria tournaments are fun I've played in them when I coached a sua blues team.

Sorry FAST trying to type on iPad in Disney! ACTUALLY I'd sat BOTH the Farley and Wilde would be both good suggestions for what he's looking for. How's that for a " feel good" answer? :)
