Does anyone recall a worse weather Spring season when it comes to high school softball?

Oh yes, this isn't the first season like this. lol.

We've been lucky enough to always get the majority of the schedule in but I can't remember the last time we got the entire schedule played. I remember one year there were schools to the north that had less than 10 games played just a week or so before tournament draw.

after playing 35 games as a soph, and about 25-26 as a Jr , my senior year our baseball team went 7-7 . one tourney game for a total of 15. That was in 1984 . MD

My senior year in baseball no games were getting in early. One field in the area known as the "sand box" was getting games put on it with teams from all over. Got out of school early a couple times to use this field. (1981)

I would much rather this be switched to fall so the majority of the games could be played. How many hundreds of games have been cancelled or postponed this year?

Yes, the championships might have to be played in colder weather, but that would affect a smaller number of teams. Right now, every team in Ohio has had weather issues. We've played 4 / 14.

Mark Johnson from Ch 5 here in Cleveland has hit his forecasts on the head since Oct. Called for below temps in October for December (I told people at work and claimed he was on something). We were averaging 7 degrees below normal that month. In Novemember, he called for more snow. I think we had 3 major snowstorms. In December, same forecast, and we had 4 systems. Anyway, in February, he called for a either extreme snow or rain March and April with temps below normal with extreme spikes in highs. I was hoping he would be wrong. He even called out the tornado outbreak last week.

Would the Ohsaa then switch the volleyball season to the spring time? In this area we have a large number of girls that love to play softball and volleyball.

I just wanted to throw this out. I am a transplant, but why dosn't softball and baseball start later in the school year (May) I remember May 15th was about the start date for games and we went into June....

Transplant from where? Because the Ohio school calendar would not allow for play deep into June. School is out and I think it would be very difficult to have more than 4 teams still playing after first weekend in June. When did your HS close down school classes?

starting in mid may would have the girls playing way after graduation dates. How about shortening the STUPID way Ohio does the tourney ? far too much time between rounds. So I'll suggest shortening the tourney , and starting the season 7-14 days later. Or move the entire ball of wax to the fall. That would be good also. But thats hurts recruiting at fall showcases also. MD
