With ASA going to insurance on players now How is that going to affect teams that pick up a player for the weekend. do they play without Insurance?

According to our local director you can add a player to your team insurance anytime by turning in her info and paying the player fee. If you choose to pick up a player for the weekend and don't do this she is playing at her own risk as far as team insurance covering her. Better make sure the parents know this.

If I am not mistaken, you can still obtain the "team insurance" which is a broader coverage. It's more $$$ but not limited to idividuals.

You can still get team, but Bollinger and ASA are strongly suggesting individual and within a year or 2 individual will probably be mandatory

Ahhh..Get both, you can never have enough insurance. Plus the parents are paying for it anyways. ;)

I thought the "non-team" for non-league teams coverage covered all practices and games for any sanction and etc... Reading the coverage for the individual, it's very limited in it's coverage, and covers only events that are sanctioned, ASA or NSA, but not both. I would see why that the insurance company would push the individual. Or am I reading this wrong?

ASA has changed this year from my understanding! Have not gone to ASA website to verify. I just wondered how many people are familiar with the National Alliance for youth sports. (www.nays.org)
there is a link to The NYSCA (National youth sports coaches association) I have been through their
program several times. Lots of good common sense stuff! They also offer liability insurance to cover coaches. I think the Membership is still $25. I thought it was money well spent. Just thought I would
pass this info. along.

Shockwave...
I am the ASA District Commissioner in NW Ohio..... The Ind. Registration insurance covers all sanctioning events as long as the player is playing on an ASA sanctioned team. ?So, if Susie is ind. registered and decides to play one weekend on a different team that is not ASA sanctioned, she would not be covered. ?If she switched to another ASA sanctioned team and plays USSSA, NSA, Pony, or whatever, she would still be covered.
Also, when you sign up for the insurance, you do not have to pay your ASA sanctioning fee of $20.00

Oh Dear I need some clarification please!!!! If a player is individually covered by liability through ASA are you saying that if we play in a NSA, Pony or FAST, we are NOT COVERED????? In the past we get team insurance and it did not matter what governing body we played in, we were covered!!!!!!!!

Please educate me!! !

When I registered my team for insurance, the 11 girls I registered, were covered to play in any sanctioning body. ?

What I understand Fast2home saying is, that if my ASA registered/insured daughter fills in on a team that does not carry ASA insurance, then she would not be covered. ?If she fills in on an ASA sanctioned/insured team, she would be covered on that team no matter what sanctioning tourney they played in.

What truly needs clarification is the difference between an ASA sanctioned team and an ASA insured team. A team could be ASA sanctioned, but not be ASA insured, or ASA insured, but not ASA sanctioned. That is when the problem would occur, because the ASA sanctioned team is not covered by ASA insurance, or vice versa.

Here is what my insurance policy states....

A. ?The following is added to Section 11- WH0 IS INSURED:
The person or organization shown in the above SCHEDULE but only with respect to liability arising out of the organization, promotion, administration and conduct of amateur softball activities, including games, practices, toumaments, and fund-raising activities, under the rules of the Amateur Softball Association of America, provided:

a. ?That if the person or organization is designated as a Team, the person or organization so designated shall be deemed to include team members, managers, coaches, assistants, batboys, registered scorekeepers, sponsors, any other individual participating in the official functions of the team, and if so indicated, a Field Owner, but only for liability arising out of the designated Team's amateur softball activities covered under this policy;

b. ?That if the person or organization is designated as a League, the interest of the League shall not be included unless all teams in the League purchase this insurance.

When the interest of the League is so included, the person or organization designated as a League shall be deemed to include all teams in the league and team members, managers, coaches, assistants, batboys, registered scorekeepers, sponsors, any other individual participating in the official functions of the League or of any such teams, and if so indicated, a Field Owner, but only for liability arising out of the designated League's amateur softball activities covered under this policy;

Several things stated above lead me to believe that a pick up player would be covered, especially what I have highlighted.

Who does it actually cover, the venue or the player? Anytime any of mine had an injury playing that needed a doctor visit, my work insurance was the covering party....?

Urbana. No she is not. Unless You know in advance you are picking her up you can add her by paying the individual fee.

Hilliarddad3,
Team insurance is only a secondary to your medical insurance provided thru your workplace. This will pick up any uncovered expenses that your primary insurance will not cover. Team insurance is only secondary to what insurance that you normally use. Unless you are uninsured, then team insurance is primary.
