around and unfortunately at the girls ? We won a intense sudden death game against a tough opponent who was formerly undefeated ( ;)) After the game I was told the coach read them the riot act including some coarse language ---I guess it had to be at the girls , it was directly after the game in front of the team during the post game huddle. Maybe it's a heat of the battle deal and can be tolerated if the coach admits she screwed up ? I am living in a dream world or does this go on and I've never heard it ? MD

I would have a problem with it at any age level. Fortunatly the worst I've heard from our coach is he called my DD a knucklehead for not staying on second. The man has more patience than I do.

At U12, no way is this acceptable. Period. Through the high school years, it should be avoided. An occasional slip may happen but still should not be accepted as routine. And never directed at a player. Past 18, they are adults. I'd prefer that it would be avoided but between adults, I guess we make are own choices then.

Before you judge what a coach has to say to her team after a game, or what someone else told you a coach said after a game, maybe you need to have all your facts straight. Maybe you need to at least attend more than one game and maybe even attend some practices before you draw conclusions. Our coach is very tough on our girls, and furthermore, VERY well respected by each and every player and parent. I have NEVER heard our coach cuss at our players, just gives them constructive critism which makes them WINNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess if her style isn't what YOU prefer, that's your opinion and I guess you can stay where you are. However, I personally love her passion for the game and how she truly cares about each and every one of our kids and is helping turn them into mature young adults and preparing them for "the real world" ASk around, you will likely not find anyone more respected in the area by other teams, coaches and umpires.

WOW! To get back to the question at hand. No!!! Cursing at the girls should never be tolerated. I have always considered cursing at someone to be the surest sign of ignorance and disrepect. If you cannot express your thoughts or emotions in a better manner, walk away and come back to it when you're calmed down.

I absolutely agree with you about cursing, it is not necessary. I am just a "to the point kind of person" and I said what I feel. Don't think there's anything wrong with that! WE have a great coach and don't like her being bashed and accused of things that are false.

Lets take a step further. No one should be talking in the manner around girls at any age even the parents. these is the ages where we are trying to mod thes girls into young successful young adults and foul language should not be part of it.

Not trying to judge anyone, and I was not trying to secretly give your coach a bad image by asking that question on here . I was intentionally vague as possable and did'nt mention teams, location, etc. ?You said something about bashing and false reports ?? I was told this secondhand by 3 different adults --did they misunderstand ? If so I'll apologize for asking about this. Your team is great , the atmosphere was pretty electric, ?as I said maybe a heat of the battle mistake occured . Your team (and organization) is awesome and did'nt get that way without good leaders at the top. ? Good luck to you. ? MD Also if it's any consolation we got drilled 11-1 in the final :)

This is not directed at this particular team - just answering the question and the response given here.

In no way, shape or form should a coach in youth sports be permitted to verbally abuse players - and yelling and swearing is abuse. That is not helping turn them into mature young adults. If you agree with those tactics - then shame on you as a parent. Parents turn their children into mature adults by providing a positive path for them to follow - not coahes that can not control themselves during or after A KIDS GAME for heavens sake.

Thanks for your complements ManitouDan. I believe it is obvious on and off the field that our girls absolutely 100% respect our coach. I am sure that she would not earn that respect if she cussed at our players or verbally abused them. I am also sure that if this took place, the parents wouldn't stand there and allow it to happen either. I have heard the very same type of after game speech after a 20-0 win if they did not play to their potential. I believe that you only get from a player what is expected of them. I get frustrated with coaches that try to "sugar coat" a mistake by a player. I believe that at this age, they need to be held accountable. I guess we are all entitled to our own opinions and coaching styles, and we have many different organizations to choose from. Just wanted people to know the facts, our coach DID NOT cuss at our players and NEVER has. AS my daugher said, she even says "excuse my language" when she uses the word butt. Good luck to you as well, but is it true that you guys are not playing any more tournaments this year? And as for your loss in the finals, it's hard to get up for a game after an intense game like ours.

no problem --I'd rather have a tough coach than a sugar coater also. Maybe the people who heard the post game stuff were just not used to that level of intensity . I'm glad it did'nt happen the way it was reported and I'll use this to try and remember don't repeat anything unless you heard it firsthand . ---I should know better. hopefully you and me are the only 2 who knows whose team was being discussed. It was not my intention to slight them , I love good top level softball and you guys play it .
As for now , we are going to harrisburg pa. to play in the East Regional B division. Aug 2-5th. We have a "possable" tourney on our schedule july 27-29th at Pickerton Oh. BUT if I had to guess we may not have the funds for it. We are fundraising for the Pa. trip and may not be able to get everyone together for a out of town tourney the week before Pa. We are in a silly dilema--1/2 the girls are playing LL allstars (Don't get me started) and 1/2 are not. Coaches intentionally scheduled late june/july off. Now we may not play together before the big trip except for practice. We will hold our own fall tourney Sept 15-16th. Wish you were closer , scrimmages would be great ---MD

No you too are not the only ones that know which team you are talking about. You tell me why girls drive over an hour to practice 4 times a week on off season and twice a week plus weekends during the season to play for this coach. Well I will tell you. This is the only coach my girl will play for. She was our 10U coach and if she wouldn't have moved up to the 12U there would not have been a 12U team because the girls respected her that much, they did not want to play for anyone else. My girl played her first year of middle school ball this year, and when the middle school coach would tell the girls something he would look at my girl to make sure it was correct. It's not that she is cocky, because her travel coach would not allow it. It because she has learned more playing for the travel coach than she could learn in a life time. So let's set the story straight. This coach did not and would not have cuss to these girls that she loves. This coach does not have a child that plays. She does this for the love of the game which she instill into these girls, so the parents and the girls do not appreciate such comments coming from someone that does not know this team.

To hopefully curtail this ---I was wrong ---I repeated something I was told without hearing it firsthand --thought the folks who said what happened would not embellish the account. can you accept an honest apology ? MD

Apology accepted ManitouDan. As marywitte said, we are a very close team and greatly appreciate all the hours our coach volunteers and doesn't even have a child on the team. Maybe we will see you all in Pickerington.

This is what is wrong with this forum at times. People get on here and post things and it takes on a life of its own. Most times with little regard for those who are affected by what is said. Maybe we should stick to things that we are absolutly sure of, and not what we heard from our mothers, brothers, best friends cousin that is married to someone's uncle in St. Louis that knows a guy in Jersey who heard about it thru thier blog.
