Does the OHSAA have a bat drop (length ? weight) regulation? I?ve done a google search and a search of this forum but I can?t seem to find anything. I would hate to invest in a bat that she can?t use.

Thanks in advance for any info.

No the OHSAA does not have any specific rules governing bat length/weight. They pretty much follow what the NFHS rules suggest, which on the same topic they have no restrictions. They follow the ASA guidelines that recognize bats that meet or exceed the safety guidelines they have established. Go to ASA website and look under "approved bats" and those are the same bats approved by OHSAA.

Here is a link to ASA...

I was thinking and hoping thier was a rule on this.I thought in fastpitch a drop can be no more than -8?I have seen way to many 13-14 year old kids using a green Easton Cyclone bat which has the ASA stamp on it but doesn't clarify fastor slow pitch. The bat is 34/28!Way too heavy for a kid to swing and to have a 3rd baseman playing 30 feet from.Haven't had any umps, coaches or parents agree that it is an illegal bat.
I thought the rule was -8 but can't prove it and would love to see proof.

To my knowledge there is no rule as long as its a bottle bat meaning fastpitch shaped,,,,,,,, in the 6 years we have played travel and 3 in school ball I have never seen an offical kick out a bat because of weight or drop............... 26 oz begins the slow pitch if a kid can swing it,,,,,,,, its allowed

No rule on drop. I don't think 3rd has to worry much about a 14U swinging a 34/28 but the first basemen and coach should look out.:lmao:

As long as it has the ASA 2004 logo or ASA 2000 logo and does not appear on the ASA banned list the bat is legal.

This is per NFHS (which governs OHSAA) rule 1-5 article 4 (as well as other articles 1-9) Drop isn't specifically addressed, but they appear to trust ASA to approve legal bats.

Maybe somebody is thinking of high school baseball? They do have a drop limit on their bats (no more than -3 from the length).

High school softball, as already noted, uses the ASA bat specs and approved bat list. There is no drop limit. The only qualifiers as far as length and weight are that the bat can be a maximum of 34 inches long and up to 38 ounces.

ASA bat rules do not distinguish between "slow pitch" or "fastpitch" bats. If the bat meets the specs, it is legal for ALL softball games. The bat either meets the specs and is a legal bat or it does not and is an illegal bat.
