Before You Embark..

Everyone,
Just a quick note to say, start getting in the habit of pulling your DD's gear and anything that looks worth something from your vehicles at night. Have seen too many people in the softball world get their items stolen, bags and all from their cars at night. Heard a team down here in Nashville had it happen yesterday. Yeah a pain in the rear to do each night, but let's not give these dirtballs any opportunity.

We all know the softball world has integrity, but unfortunately others don't.....

We take our bags out every night. It's a pain in the butt, but it's more a pain to have to replace a $300 bat or an $80 glove or part of her uniform that may be in her bag. A little bit a paranoia goes a long way. From reading this forum over the years, gps's and cameras seem to be a primary target, but I wouldn't put it past somebody to break into your car for anything. The thieves know the types of items vacationers or travel softball families are carrying.

Several of us lost garmins and cameras (to say nothing of the broken windows) when parked outside of the Marriott in Reston VA during Eastern Nationals last year. Lesson learned.

York, PA is even worse for parking lot theft right at the complex.

Wish it was something we didn't have to worry about!

What is that thing behind the pitcher in your avatar? Looks like a giant pink fish?

No hi-jack intended but I've been wondering for a while.

Thanks katjoebenmom! I see what it is now. Kind of like one of those eye teaser puzzles.

Good thread though and thanks for the heads up. I always feel like a dork using the luggage cart to haul all our stuff in every night, but after reading this, NOT SO MUCH! I hate thieves.

No matter where you are, you should always empty your car. Here's how I look at it:

My dd is a catcher so I have catcher's equipment, her catcher's mitt and fielding glove, helmet, 2 bats, and cleats. The total to replace all of that stuff would be about $1,200.00. Add cameras and GPS units, etc. and you could be staring at around $2,000. I don't know about you, but I don't feel like spending that kind of money because of my laziness.
