I was not trying to downplay or disrespect the Stingrays tournament. It's still a good opportunity for exposure. "Great" may be overstating it a little though. My point was that Stingrays is losing some D1 interest because it's up against the DeMarini Invitational on the same weekend. The numbers don't lie. But Stingrays is still at or near the top of Ohio showcases, no denying that.

We're talking best OHIO tournaments. Nothing outside the state otherwise a poster would have slammed the Fire-in-the-Sky as it's the same time as the Sparkler.

So are these still the best tournaments or have things changed since then?

Stingrays has grown and yes, Ohio teams are starting to step up more to build their resumes. As for Fire-In-The-Sky, I'm still biased since I grew up in the area. However, I do think it has grown too much and lost some of its luster. One of the perks was playing in Orr Park at least once, and now it's tough to play there.

I think for exposure and the amount of coaches attending, you now need to include the summer/fall Outlaws tournaments specifically the Fall Brawl.

I dont know if its still around, but for a fun event i always liked the Smokey baker tournament east of Cincinnati at Expressway park.

Definitely agree on that. Every year they have gotten better in terms of exposure and competition wise.

Outlaws are doing good things for Ohio tournaments. Fall Brawl is good. They have partnered with D1 and have a 2 day camp prior to their summer showcase. I would have to say they are right on the tails of the Stingrays tournament and may surpass them.

We are fortunate to have many great softball tournaments in Ohio. IMHO, Stingrays is the top-notch summer tourney.

Stingrays is not only well attended by college coaches but in my experience has been incredibly well done. The small things are done extremely well making it the best showcase experience in the State hands down for us. I also think, unlike numerous other showcases in other areas of the country, it is still a very good size tournament. The age groups are at set locations at very good facilities. Many of the other showcases out there in the rest of the country are ridiculously spread out. I am on conference calls constantly with college coaches talking about other tournaments in which facilities are over 50 miles apart!

Rudy and his staff do a phenomenal job with Stingrays. I believe it is one of the best in the country!

Thank you for the highest of compliments, but Stingrays is Ohio's premier Showcase.
We are just trying to give the girls of Ohio a couple other options and a format that they may be able to fulfill their dreams of being recruited to play college softball while staying right here in Ohio.

How many Ohio teams apply for Stingrays and Outlaws tournaments and how many do they accept?

Look at the Stingray thread. Of the 113 16U teams, I think only 48 get chosen.

Not a clear answer. We do not do 10U -13U in the Fall Brawl, and was invite only no application. I would say we were 50/50 instate and out of state accepted teams.

For me, the Stingrays has been and continues to be #1. I stepped away from coaching 2011-2014 and I really missed attending. It's not only the softball being played and the college coaches in attendance, but most important the people involved. From Rudy, Mike M., Terry M, Bill V. to the their parents and volunteers, they truly make you feel that you are so welcome and that they are very grateful that you are attending their event. As an USA/ASA National Runner-up, two time ASA State Champion and state champion of other organizations, and lucky enough to win Stingrays once, as I told Rudy, this event is as tough to win as some of those 100+ National Tournaments. This thread may be better if the tournaments were broken down by age. Example, Fire in the Sky 14U, Stingrays/Outlaws 16U, etc.

What is your #1 rated Tournament in Ohio and why?

The Prebis
Why? It brings some of the best HS teams together to play a weekend of games with no scouts, not showcasing, no agendas other than playing your best with your team. You are jammed into a great park with 5 fields, balls flying everywhere,
teams camped everywhere, and wherever you turn there is the who's who of HS players pitching, hitting, fielding against each other. Truly a well-run spectacle.

Note to self, never use a touch screen phone to login and look at a post. LOL I have to agree with Lewam3 on this concerning the Prebis. I know how most of us feel about HS games, but at least this tournament does bring out the best in all of the girls and for one weekend, there's no drama.

Best Ohio tournaments our 12U attended last year were Stingrays and Lasers. Rain both weekends and excellent field crews to keep games going. I know the field crew at Lasers worked their butts off that weekend!
