I am happy to announce that I am giving lessons at the Professional Baseball Academy in Alliance, Ohio.
I am scheduling basic, intermediate and advanced infield lessons for teams as well as private lessons for individuals.
The defensive style I teach was developed by Howard Kobata in southern California. Howard's style emphasizes quickness to the ball and quickness in throwing the ball to the target. I have studied Howard's style for 12 years and consider him to be my mentor and friend. I am proud to say that Howard has referred Ohio players and coaches to me for followup lessons to reinforce the skills that Howard teaches in his clinics.
Among the skills basic students learn are throwing and catching techniques, angles to the ball, pivots, fielding and the transfer of the ball from the fielding and catching position to the throwing position. Advanced students learned more difficult skills and continue to focus on the basics but with an emphasis on speed.
By way of background, I was an infield coach for four years with a team two top-10 ASA USA finishes and later instructed other teams that placed in the top 10 at ASA USA nationals including the 2011 ASA 14U national champion Laser Gold team.
Several of my former students went on to play with the Beverly Bandits in Chicago. Former players and students are now playing for Ohio State, Kent State and the University of Akron. Younger players have signed with or committed to other colleges including Toledo, Michigan State and Oregon.
PBA is a turfed, heated facility located at 1469 W. Main St., Alliance, and features multiple batting cages as well as a large, open-space room for team lessons.
