My husband and dd have been pitching for years. At first he used shin guards then added a bucket. Now we are running out of buckets, she keeps putting holes in then, dang drop curve. What do you use at this level!

If a drop curve is hitting the bucket your sitting on, then the drop curve ain't working...........But I agree with coop, a catchers mit. Catching my junior in college is easier now then when she was 14. When they get to this level, they should be hitting a spot. If you cant hit a spot, you wont be pitching in college.
I use the Mizuno G2 coaches bucket. Nice pad and very durable bucket. Had the current one for 4 years now and it has taken a major beating. I bought a used one before that and the zipper for the lid gave way shortly after. Mizuno Organizer G2 Coaches Bucket | Best Price at HardballFans.com is just one link for you to see it. The strap is great over the shoulder/head. The inside bucket is more of a polypropylene type of plastic versus regular bucket material. Or at least it seams that way, somewhat more flexible.
Ok I admitt I cant tell her drop curve from her others, besides the change up. Dad does all that. And I did catch once about a year ago, one down the middle hit me 3 times.Needlessto say she didn't get her athletic ability from me. The stool sounds like a idea, got one in garage. Just a light post for OFC, to break up the tourny news and need a player stuff. Happy New Year from Philo Ohio
I agree with "brownsfan". I have to get off the bucket when dd throws a drop or drop curve. I would be ok if the pitch always broke the same but sometimes it breaks a little sometimes a lot (new pitches for her).
It doesn't matter how many buckets she breaks.
Just keep them all and give them to her a decade or two from now.
It 'll remind both of you as to her awesomeness.
You need to redefine your task when catching your dd,
If you don't get hurt then you are doing a great job.
Nobody is stealing, the game isn't on the line, no one is going to give you a full ride for sitting on a bucket!
Your reward is spending time with your daughter, so what you can't catch her drop...did you get hurt?
Can you do it tomorrow? ..and she still wants you to; you've got to be doing something right.
Priceless.
PS Be very careful on rise balls. When they bite... and you miss.... its not your shins that get hit. Duck
Sitting on a bucket restricts movement, makes the catcher too high, and puts "man parts" on a platter. Lester, Lester, Lester......I can't believe an ex-catcher as yourself would even think about using a bucket.

Well if you had my historical adventures....you would too. Competitive skateboarder for 10 years ruined my spine. I've flown threw the air for years and slammed on half pipes and looooved it. Just had triple fusion in my spine Dec 4th and it was a huge success. I've put it off for years due to committing to coaching so much and now had to. And I was the guy that road the bike off the school roof and lived....I could go on for hours. Next will be fusion in lower spine. Knees are in perfect shape which they shouldn't be after catching for so long. Go figure.
And you are right...I hate knee savers and the like but have to for my spine. If I can't reach it...it just has to be uncaught. That's why we have 3-4 balls for practice. Lol.
