There is alot of BASHING on the OFC these days it is crazy. Who cares what other teams or organizations are doing. There are alot of EGOS that get involved with posts and for what? We spend so much time with so many teams through out the year to get on here in the off season and talk about who or what everybody is doing wrong. It is nice to get imput for other teams during the season at tourneys and make new friends. Very hard to do when alot of this stuff going on. My opinon is that the OFC was created to help everyone in the softball world not tear it down. I just think some people need to grow up!

everyone gets bored in the winter. Don't like the bashing (discussion is not bashing) but personally I love the hot stove league. Just because not everyone is peaches and cream doesn't mean it's bashing. Creates a competitive atmoshepre come June . Lol MD

You should have been here about 6-7 years ago. It was like the wild, wild, west. A shoot-out in every thread.

Ricky, The Bear, and others have been instrumental in cleaning up OFC and keeping thread civil.

Travel ball will continue to get new families into the system that do not understand the true meaning of travel ball. So they vent here on OFC and then The Bear, or one of the other moderators, gets to put his big paw down and a learning experience occurs.

All in all, were doing okay.

I agree w/ MD & Slappersmom. Not agreeing w/ each other does not mean bashing. As I mentioned in the "Stud" posting, this is all good as long as it stays w/in "fair" means. I have met a lot of great people through fastpitch, love to learn & love to debate. It makes us all stronger.

Being new myself, just trying to understand. It is about the girls learning and having fun, right? I am a little slow though. No sarcasm intended.

I think I know what you are saying, buy it really does get better with time and age. There is nothing wrong with a little friendly jabbing here and there, but Bear and the other moderators do a great job keeping things in line. There will always be disagreements, but I think once you finally meet the people that are on here, you find out they really are all great people, out there for the girls

My gray hair entitles me to go back nearly ten years and I can tell you that OFC was during those early years in a total warfare state. Bizarre exchanges that were very very heated, but for the outside observer were totally unfathomable. I opted for JJHuddle during those years, but OFC has now become the more respected of the two sites for Ohio fastpitch. We do indeed have the Admins to thank for cleaning this site up, but I like to think that at this point we also smooth things out together when they get a little dicey. If I criticize someone and you feel that it is bashing that person, feel free to call me out. The good will that is generated by this site is too important for my ego to damage that collegiality. On the other hand, when I see something that I think is nonsense, I will call it as I see it until somebody else does in fact call me out. It's all a matter of balance.

Especially at the 10U and 12U level, learning, developing, and excelling. And having fun along the way.

Where things go wrong is when parents and coaches have a different understanding about what is entailed in the development part. We've all heard the phrase "Different strokes for different folks." Well, a coach can say the team is about developing and a parent can say that they want their girl on a team that develops players but if they don't have a common definition of what development is, then things go south.

Both are right in their understanding of development and both could be wrong because they have two different variations.

So, communication, communication, communication and find the team that is the right match for your DD. As for the fun part....if they don't have fun at 10U and 12U, you will never get them to come out at the 14U and up.

There are some newer families to travel ball that think travel ball is about winning, winning, and winning. It takes about a year, or two, for them to finally get it. That's okay, we are used to it. we have all been there, done that. Had that mind set. All gone now.:)

Bill, I totally agree that if the girls don't have fun at 10u ( as well as the parents) the numbers go downhill from there.

10u is about having fun, teaching the fundementals and practice.

If they don't have fun... I agree .. players and parents don't come back.

The problem I see in 10u is the lack of teams in events.. say like the other age groups. The 10u division is ALWAYS the hardest to fill as a TD. So Td's working hard to make their experience a fun one... is a must.

Like you said, obviously there is different levels at 10u. You can expect that. With the lack of numbers in 10u ... the good teams want to play each other and the developmental teams just dislike getting their thumpings each weekend. This is why I have always said in 10u .... there should be 2 divisions... an "A" and a "B".

It just makes sense to put each at their level of play.

@Doug:

Mostly I just sang in with "what in the world?" posts, though you might indeed find a few posts by me as a parent (dd graduated hs in 2006) that would make me cringe. We all go through our learning curves. I will say that you probably won't find a single post from me criticizing her TB coaches, as they were both awesome.

Oh yeah, it was hateful and as I said really bizarre. There were some personal attacks/grudge matches that for the life of me I couldn't figure out. There wasn't a lot of learning going on . . .
