Being new myself, just trying to understand. It is about the girls learning and having fun, right? I am a little slow though. No sarcasm intended.
Especially at the 10U and 12U level, learning, developing, and excelling. And having fun along the way.
Where things go wrong is when parents and coaches have a different understanding about what is entailed in the development part. We've all heard the phrase "Different strokes for different folks." Well, a coach can say the team is about developing and a parent can say that they want their girl on a team that develops players but if they don't have a common definition of what development is, then things go south.
Both are right in their understanding of development and both could be wrong because they have two different variations.
So, communication, communication, communication and find the team that is the right match for your DD. As for the fun part....if they don't have fun at 10U and 12U, you will never get them to come out at the 14U and up.
There are some newer families to travel ball that think travel ball is about winning, winning, and winning. It takes about a year, or two, for them to finally get it. That's okay, we are used to it. we have all been there, done that. Had that mind set. All gone now.
