My dd is an experienced travel ball player. What if it isn't possible for us to commit to a travel team this year? Can she still temp? She's has before. Would other teams and coaches not be interested if she's not on another travel team? She plays school ball. We might not be able to commit to the cost, every game location, and multiple remote practices, (if you get what I mean). She can go to local tournaments under two hours away so we don't have to get hotel rooms and such.....We can see coaches looking for players on here and we can choose whether we can commit to their practice, (if time allows), and tournament location. Do all teams have temp players pay for uniforms even if it's just for one tournament? I'm just seeing if we might be able to get her through the 2010 season. Things might loosen up for the 2011 season and I want to keep her in the "flow" of things.

Over the years I've always had one or two players that for one reason or another couldn't commit to a full travel season, but wanted to stay involved. Usually they were former players so the uniforms weren't a problem, but I always have 1-2 extra uniforms just in case - if I'm asking someone to sub, I'm trying to minimize their costs because they're doing me a favor. Practice wise, my former players always know they're welcome to come and work out with us - especially if there's a possibility that they'll be subbing in for us during the season.

Might want to pick a team or two and approach them with your situation and see if they're interested. Lot of things happen in a season so most coaches won't turn away a good player.

Good luck!

Some teams will have subs to contact incase someone is sick/injured or cant make it. They usually have an extra uniform or 2 for subs to wear. You just have to talk to the coaches and see if they will agree to the whole thing.

My DD subbed for three different teams this year at tournies that my younger DD was already playing in, she learned alot and got to meet a lot of great players and coaches, all in all it was a great experience for her.

The only thing that you have to be careful of is the released player rules, NSA only allows one release per year, so you tourney choices could be limited.

With the economy the way it is, some teams are staying more local our 10U team this year only did one overnight tourney and Nationals cost was not that bad, you may find teams in your area doing the same.
