Question: When a championship game is played about half way, then delayed and cancelled due to rain what is the best way to determine the winner of the game? Do you base that game on a coin flip or should you go back and look at the runs scored in the pool play prior to that game to determine
a winner? (My opinion -a coin flip or Rock Paper Scissors is a game of chance and not a reflection of how both teams played all weekend or up until that point in time) Thoughts?

Coin Flips are ridiculous for determining a championship. I had a team loss a championship due to coin flip years ago. The worst feeling ever.

Either Share or base it on runs allowed, runs scored in Bracket play games.

If it needs to be cancelled, the championship should revert back to the seeds from pool play.

That makes sense. There could be two first place pool teams in the championship game even in a smaller tournament. All tournaments should have a ranking order of how teams finish.

For instance:

1. Highest pool placement
2. Most runs scored
3. Least runs against
4. Etc.

It really all depends on what age level and what level of play your team plays. If your in a true showcase pool play shouldn’t matter along with seeds. The idea is to showcase your team and wins and losses shouldn’t matter. A lot of the bigger showcases make you finish now in the top 3 of your pool to advance so you have to win instead of showcasing your players. If your doing a regular tournament and it gets rain I say best way would be run difference from bracket play not pool that way your top seeds would still be at a advantage by playing a lower seed in bracket. In the end it sucks either way mostly if your team is playing well. Years ago we were at the State Championships and we got lots of rain and we we’re down to final 4, they had us in the final all meet to decide who would receive the 2 berths to Nationals. It came down to coin flips of coarse I suck at coin flips so we finished in fourth. Terrible way to lose but someone had to win!!

As for me, the number of races is not always an indicator of a high score. It would be more correct to play the match from the beginning or continue the one that has already begun, if the rain is moderate and in fact does not interfere.
