Changes to official scoring(?)

So it begins..DD strikes out 17 in opening game. We were told, and radio and newpaper put in 10 K's. Upon asking, were told that "....now, if you strike out w/full count, catcher drops third, or holds fall tip, no K..." HAVE I MISSED SOMETHING? Also, DD flies out to deep left-center, runner on third tags and scores. Officail scorer does not award sac, gives an 0 for 1. Same game, girl grounds out to second, runner advances to second, batter gets sacrifice. Again, I have only been keeping book since 1974, were there indeed changes to official scoring and did I not get a memo? I learned book the old fashioned way, picking up a score card outside Riverfornt and doing the whole game with my dad. Does anybody do that anymore, and do they still sell the cards? Oh well, enough kvetching, I am going to drink a Pabst and pretend its a Hudephol...

Funny, you have to be certified to coach and to umpire, but not to keep the OFFICIAL record of the game. Just something to think about.

Yes find new scorekeeper. No changes in rulings just stupid scorekeepers....

u have to be joke........a K is a K, the number of balls in the count means nothing

And the fly ball that scores a run is a given

the ground ball...........i have mixed feelings on that stuff, a bunt is a sacrifice but a ground ball, kind of stretching it but I know it is a sac I just do not really agree with that

Yeah, definitely need a new scorekeeper! Spartans ... the ground ball as described would not be a sacrifice ... the point was that the scorekeeper did count that one but not the fly ball.

I think I found the problem: You need to drive eastward until you can Grab An Iron, or a Yeungling.

:D

LOL

missed that thanks

So at least my thinking was correct........

I am torn on the whole stats stuff. They mean nothing if you do not have a good book. And that is tough to find. Plus parenst all have a HUGE opinion. we did not even keep stats last year and yet I would hear Dads discussing if their DD was 4-10 or 4-9 or 5-8....balh blah blah

Let be clear. I love stats. I do not think you can really do the whole team and game management proper without good stats. But at the 12U level it is hard to get enough qualified people. At 14U I think you need to really look at having someone trained so you can get good data. It has to be good data before it makes any sense.

Sheriff Bart--Yuengling is the official beer sponsor(lol) of my end-of-Feb trip to Hilton Head every year(actually, we pretty much help inflate thier annual sales figures...Great stuff). Only drink Little Kings on a dare-first beer I ever had illegally at age 15, about 120 degrees-between that expereince and the actual death threat from my dad, never consumed again until legal at OSU! On the serious side, I am glad I did not miss a memo somewhere. Thanks.
