You had me respecting your dedication until you made the small ball comment and "like boys"...when you find that team of girls who play "like boys" look me up I will gladly scrimmage you and teach you what girls are capable of. 60 mph from 43 feet is faster than most high baseball pitchers throw and we slap it all day, and will hit it over too with our number 7 batter...

"Like boys"...you should apologize to most everyone on here you offended

the reason i made the comment was to show manitoudan how little i know about girls softball. it wasnt a sexist comment (as i stated) it was an admission that I dont know how to coach girls softball. Boys dont play small ball, boys dont pitch underhanded, boys dont play 3rd base from 30 feet away, boys dont try to hit the middle of there back on a practice swing, boys dont try the quick release throw from the ear like girls do. I was just saying that it is a different game. I was also being sarcasitic (again as stated).

Actually, hitting the middle of the back causes the batter to roll her wrists during the best part of the pitch.

Question for luvthegame and don't take this wrong as I am honestly curious: if your comment is true then why have many instructors and college coaches been teaching this for years? I personally know fourteen girls who went to the same instructor over the years (who coached college ball several years before retiring) and all except one have batted well over .300 batting averages-in all levels, all except one graduated and the four who are still in high school have moved on to college ball, one is on second team All State high school. I have been told that everyone has an opinion and that techniques today will be changed down the road. Just wondering as it appears that these girls have one thing in common besides high batting averages: low strikeout rates. Seems to me that as the swings become more along the lines of baseball that the strikeouts mount. The HRS are pretty when they come but I would rather have consistent contact IF that is the difference. Any help would be appreciated as I try to gain as much knowledge as possible.

getting back to the topic title

I too would love to see something offerered at tournaments on Sunday. I'm sure it could be as easy as a TD asking a parent or even a local church to come do a small devotion at the field for our girls and us parents who do go to church the 'rest' of the year.

just make sure it is advertised so we know and know where to go.

thanks for bringing up the subject and REALLY hope to see something this next year at the fields.

That sounds like a great idea. I would think a local church would be very interested in offering an outdoor service or at least an opening to the tournament.

With the collection plate in tow. :D

Might be a problem with scheduling as they would have their regularly scheduled Sunday Services to work around but I'm sure it could be done and I think that would be great! So I offer an AMEN :yahoo:

must, whats ur avatar? like, an obama emergency zone?

haha, no I shy away from politics. Coach said at beginning of many tourneys he has had to explain to the TD that he is not mustohiofastpitch and that the views must expresses are not his or his organization. I feel toxic so I warn others.

It sounds like there are a lot of families that are sad that they are missing church, that is good and wonderful that you want to be in God's Home on the Lords Day. Here is just a thought, and it is something that my family and I have been dealing with and at times struggleing with. God is the #1, family is the #2, and church is the #3 when it comes to priorities. Do not get me wrong, I am not saying that church is not important because it is very important. But Jesus said that the Sabith (or day of worship) is made for man, not man made for the Sabith. The writer of Hebrews said that we are not to forsake the getting together as a church, but did not say it had to be on a certain day at a certain time to do a certain thing. It was so that the members of the church could build each other up in Christ and grow together, so that we can be a better wittness and fullfill the great commision to Go!!!!! I think it would be wonderful to have devotionals at Tournaments. Local Church lead would be nice, but family lead would be better. It is one of the things our church is trying to get into focus is to "BE THE CHURCH, NOT JUST HAVE CHURCH".

God Bless, and I stand beside you and encourage you to continue to stand up for God, as you raise Godly families in Godly homes.

the reason the batting styles are different is relating to the ball travel path. the release point on baseball is from about 6-7 feet in the air and girls softball release point is 1-2 feet off of the ground. therefore the batter has to approach the ball with a different swing plane. that is why is it difficult for a baseball player to hit a girls fastpitch and visa versa.

Back to the original post: it is good to hear that others have thought of this issue as well. i think it would have to be up to tournament officials to allow some form of tent for those who feel the desire to worship at the tournament. I am working on getting in touch with a friend of mine who works for atheletes in action and see if they have anyone in southwest ohio that would want to start team, they have great facilities in xenia.

great post coolbreeze you are right in everything you say and is a good way to think about it. we did not let our kids play on sunday morning until they were old enough to understand why we dont play on sunday morning. the best example of this is written about in the first few chapters of the book called "family driven faith" it is a tragic story about a father and son and what can happen when sports are placed first.

Thanks rounder, I agree and support your actions of waiting until the kids have a proper understanding and then build off of it. I think that if AIA is willing and wanting to get involved and help get something started that would be a big plus. In a previous post it was said that " that is the world we live in", well we have the power to change that if we stand up and speak up about our Faith.

awesome thread,
I am so excited that you are looking for a christian organization for your daughter to play for. I as well am a christian. I coach a team from the cleveland area. We are very competitive. My husband is a pastor and our chiurch is in Clevelnad as well. When we have home tournaments I come late on sundays after church and let my assistant coach do the games that are early on sunday morning, and also try to find a church when I am out of town if possible. I think it is great that you and your daughter are putting the Lord first and not misssing out on what God has for you. I also played in College and I am currently playing for the Alron Racers. You are very right that softball can and has been for me a witnessing tool that is so wonderful. I also played with CEI and Athletes in Action over seas when I was in college(actually that is where i met my husband) pleaselet me now what age group you are looking for your daughter to play. I coach a 16u team.
thanks

Wasn't it a couple of years ago we were rejoicing and praising the tournaments that brought us the misting tents.

We have vendors at tournaments, why couldn't tournaments give an opportunity to local church youth organizations to have a tent where they could sell crafts or bake goods, or maybe even a dunking tank :). Having a Youth leader there they could share devotions with whomever anytime.

Then say before warms ups of the first games on Sunday there could be a worship service as well (BYOC=bring you own chair). I know the girls & parents like staying up late at the hotels, but have you seen those girls walking into the park the next day, if they had some upbeat christian music (and I am not talking the traditional hyms) to start their day just think of the energy they would have at gametime.

Come on people if a campground can figure it out I am sure we could.

My team is a Catholic team. We say prayer before each game and during some of those long rain delays we go to the church closest to the tournament as a team. It has been a lot of fun and has kind of been a team building exercise, but its hard playing softball and still having time to go to church. All I can say is look for those late saturday and late sunday masses, it has really helped us out.

great idea but no one I'm aware of uses that as a selling tool . The best scenario is being part of a church that offers sat pm and sunday am services. that way if you are lucky you can catch one or the other service. I agree --fastpitch is tough on the spiritual life during the season. MD

Dont wanna "Gain the Whole world ...(Of Travel-Ball) and lose our Souls..."
A team that Catered to Christain Kids would be kool... say a Sunday Morning Devotion and Team Prayer. Mainly be that Rock Solid example of God to your Kids... And Honor God in all you do. And the Other 9 months a year Be in the Pews every chance you get.
