Coaches Polls

So a popularity contest of sorts? Not sure the results will be much different then what we already have.. No your just allowing everyone. Who is arguable less qualified..

Why not add some metric of objectivity ie points for differnt metrics. W/l, strength of schedule, runs for/ against, top team head to head, then tally the points from the metrics? Yea it could be a full time job...

Maybe we can all vote on whether to do a new poll?

All good stuff! The intention was just to throw a thought out there. Coachjwb said go for it....so I figured I would test the waters and see what kind of responses I would get. No intention to take away from the Coaches Polls. Perhaps just a different perspective from parents and others who may be involved in this great game.

I received a 10U top 10 last night from a Non-coach. I'll give it a few days and see what responses I may get.

Yeah go for it...parents, umpires, assistant coaches and other family members are just as important in the overall process as head coaches. Have fun with it and help make OFC bigger and better like it was back in the day!!!

Thank you Rose for the nice comment about our pitcher. My daughter plays for Valley Force and this is her first year. It has been a very awesome year to watch the girls play and advance the way they have. We are working hard on batting and some fielding errors. The polls I believe are fun and are informing also. This is our first year in travel ball and the polls help to see who are the top teams. We have seen many of them and the ones there absolutely belong where they are, not saying the rest of teams don't. But when you play the teams that are listed higher, you know your going to have a game. Every team in my opinion should be proud of every accomplishment they have made. This is the growing years, good luck to every team out there.

I have had two girls go through the ranks and now am coaching and don't have a kid playing travel (she is playing college). The polls are fun for the younger ages. Something to argue about and stuff. The same reason polls are fun in college football and basketball. They don't mean anything anymore in those sports either but I anxiously await them every week! Younger ages, are different. Parents are unrealistic, they think every kid is going to get a scholarship. When I coached the Lasers at 12 and 13, every parent kept a scorebook! That being said, the girls at those ages are great and coaching is really fun at that age. The 12,13 year old team I coached has 5 D1 players now playing and several kids that went to play D2 or D3. The players come up to me on weekends and say hi or give me a high five. That trumps any parent issues. On the polls, do them! argue about them! have fun!

go to the 14U fire in the sky tourney to see results scores etc...... almost 100 14U teams from all over will be there. that will show you who is who!

Bingo. This will also show how we stack against 14U teams from other states like NY, WV, IN, ILL, PA, etc.

I'm not sure which teams were there nor do I even care. Jackson Royals 10u won NSA states and my girl (not my d) was on the team. Good job Lil! Polls or not I really don't care, these are the moments you wish for. Very proud of you Lilley!!!

My thoughts ... nothing can replace the 10U and 12U coaches' polls ... it will probably always be the best poll in term of "accuracy" ... but someone wants to start up another poll where everyone can vote, and that's fine with me. Most every sport I know where there are polls, there are more than one. I will also be honest and say I have some skepticism as to whether there will be enough participation in this new poll, or if the voters will just pretty much follow what's in the coaches' poll anyhow. Time will tell ...
