Any ideas on candidates since Nicholson resigned to go to EIU after top player graduated? Sounds like a "Lebron" move to leave after Toman graduated.... I mean she is basically showing she wasnt confident in her returning team or was there a money issue here?

Her departure had nothing to do with confidence in her team. She thinks highly of the players on a young CSU squad (yes, even one without Dara Toman). Recruiting at urban colleges isnt necessarily that much harder than anywhere else. Some players prefer the city over more rural campuses. In the end, it is the quality of the people associated with the team (players, coaches, trainers) that drives how well the college softball experience goes for any player. The CSU team has strong chemistry and that reflected the types of players that Coach Nicholson recruited there. She and her staff will be missed. I hope her replacement has strong character and family values, as well as solid coaching credentials.

So Finch, you know that some of the players are going with her but you don't know about the assistant coaches? I wonder where you got your knowledge about the players because the players were told about the status of the assistant coaches when coach called them to tell them she was leaving.

Just Sayin.....and it is still up in the air on who is coaching Cleveland was told it may be a couple weeks until they know.

I appreciate your knowledge. I didn't intend to offend you. Would love to know if your DD is a current player or a recruit. You see, my DD is a current player at CSU and she was told on the call about the assistants. As someone earlier posted, this team actually had GREAT chemistry this year! She hasn't heard from any players that they are leaving with coach, but maybe that just isn't something you share with your close teammates. Guess we will see in a few weeks when they move back in or maybe we will know at the Viking Derby. Either way, I and my DD wish them all much luck and success in their new positions/school. Meanwhile, she awaits a decision on a new coach and hopes it is sooner rather than later.

The head coaching job is posted onlline. It runs through Tuesday I believe. Minimum qualifications are B.S. degree and. 5 years college coaching experience. Preferred qualifications are M.S. degree with head coaching and playing experience at collegiate level (and some other items as well). CSU should get the list of applicants next week I would think and develop the list of those to be interviewed. Have to meet minimum qualifications to get state jobs for the first filter. The list of interviewees will probably be those who best fit the preferred qualifications, as the second filter. We will have to wait and see who applies and gets interviews. I have not heard of any current player that is leaving and I don't think the coach can directly ask/offer them to come to EIU, but I know she is fond of that team.

The rumor I heard today is now Courtney is going with Angie and Stephanie asked to come back to CSU and was told no thank you. Should be interesting.

The coach has been named! Looks like Coach Norris from Indiana Tech got the nod today. We are anxious to meet her and happy that she is a transplanted Hoosier since my DD is too!!
