Wait a minute...basketballs? Volleyballs? Really? Never have heard of such a drill. Doesn't seem right to me for mechanics or the health of young girls.

My original post mentioned no schools or camps by name. It was only to mention poor mechainics or training that might hurt a player. I mentioned RVP and how our team USA is being trainined. This was to allow someone going to a camp or clinic to see if that is how they were teaching your kid how to swing. It would appear then it was hi-jacked to promote a college or camp. If we keep this on subject then the end consumer cam make a good decision on what is best for the money spent.
What makes a good camp. My top three ,
1. Less than 4 kids per station.
2. Qualified instruction or instructors.
3. Content of the instruction.

Whew....for a minute there I thought you were talking about me. I try to make sure that I do not hijack posts. Once I found this in post #5 I felt much better and realized that I was not the hijacker.

This is why I believe in WSU clinics and know Coach B and his staff have the answers or will get you an answer...this is why they help us out at our clinics when they can.

Doesn't matter what clinic you go to or what you they should or shouldnt be teaching. Not everyone goes about teaching the mechanics of swinging the same you get what you want out of it and toss everything else to the side.We have gone to many hitting Clinics ,Coaches and so on and so forth but we extract what we can use.Strengthening Drills,Speed Drills,Eye drills,Hand and eye coordination drills and then we move on, thank them for the info .Did we like everything we learned?? No..but there were things we took from them and if all seems repetitive then you know she is getting much needed reinforcement from someone other then yourself.

I know one school in the state of Washington that isn't teaching hitting down on the ball, squishing bugs, etc.

Once I got through all the promotions for the Carrier/Bustos clinics...WSU clinics...I found the best post on this thread. Well put Calling Cadence!!!

It is funny how some of these threads are started. It seems someone loves when these threads are started, just so they can bait people into defending their beliefs...Then it is BASHING TIME!!! God forbid if you don't goto or beleive in all they are saying....YOU'RE AN IDIOT...Get over yourselves!!!!

SB: I do agree with you, threads like this could help alot of people make decisions for the well being of their children. Unfortunately there are alot of people out there who use these threads to promote their camps, clinics, and agendas. Can someone tell me the last time a thread like this stayed on course and did not promote some agenda? GOOD LUCK FINDING THAT THREAD!!!!;)

Most all teachers, coaches, and instructors will agree (hopefully) that each student learns differently. The key to a student learning is finding which teaching technique to use to get the student to learn/reach a standard. Some techniques work well in a group environment and others work well in an individual setting.

I believe the intention of the thread is to state that not all camps/clinics are teaching the proper standard, not to dwell on the teaching technique.

Now, what the proper standard is can be and has been debated in other threads.

Hitter, upon further review, it was determined that you inadvertently tried to hijack the post. 30 lashes with a wet noodle. :) But...that is DD's favorite and only hitting camp/clinic/instruction and I would have mentioned it too.;)

Hi jack smi-jack....Talking about a particular college that is doing something right or wrong in a thread "COLLEGE CAMPS AND CLINICS..... seems to be of value and dead on.

Maybe each thread should have a SCOPE Statement at the beginning and maybe some helps or guidelines.....

Sounds like we all need to get on a field...... AND SOOON!

Northwestern "TWO DAY" Clinic in Chicago last weekend was SUPERB! Recommend to ANYONE for next year. Lauren Lappin(Gold Medalist) as Catchers Coach, Drohan Sisters as Head and Hitting Coaches, and various NU Studdettes past and present on hand to help. Tons of instruction, mental approaches, with lots of hands on for each attendee. 10 Coaches, 9 Players working with about 100 players. Indiana and MSU Coaches were on hand helping also.

Already signed up for next year. Watching Nicole Pauly & Tammy hit was worth the price of admission. And yes, the Caryl Drohan(Hitting Coach) has her method, but also leverages each hitters NATURAL tendancies to NOT MESS with what's not broke.

This a clinic dd has wanted to go to for a couple of years, ive always had the personal thought it would be first class since they have gone so deep in the playoffs in recent years, glad to hear a first hand experience so positive

In my opinion some of the people on the OFC go to various camps/ clinics and know what is being taught and have an opinion on it.

I think it is relevant to if the camp/ clinic is teaching hitting down on the ball, level to the ball or swinging around the ball or staying in the Big Zone by keeping the hands above the plane of the pitch is relevant information when selecting camps/ clinics.

If the clinic/ camps use balance beams and you can not plant your heel you may want to know that.

If they stride or do not stride you may want to know that.

Do they use basketballs or volley balls to hit you may want to know that.

Do they teach squish the bug you may want to know that or slapping your shoulder or hitting your back.

There are different types of hitting techniques or methods being taught so if someone knows what they are teaching at those camps/ clinics and it helps you make a more informed decision that helps you as a consumer.

When my brand new 1999 Ford had three transmissions replaced and four speed sensors and I started asking around about how long this had been happening I found a ton of information. When Ford decided not to take it back as my wife had lost confidence in the van we decided to not own any more Ford products....we wished we had know before we bought it.

Use the PM feature, email or pick up the phone as the attorney says and always start off the conversation with in my opinion...in most cases you can express an opinion and when you can back it up with data it helps...in my opinion.

Howard, I agree with you on that, but in My Opinion there is a better way to get that information out there. It's uncalled for to bash a school or coach because you don't agree with everything they are teaching...In My Opinion! The funny thing is they are teaching alot of the same things you teach. They might not have the same snazzy drills you have but they are working for the same results. They want the kids to walk away with a better understanding about the fundamentals of hitting. I think that is something you once told me!
