College Players on 18-U Teams

As a parent whose daughter is beginning the college search process, the number of rules and regulations are absolutely mind-boggling -- almost absurd. With the different sanctioning bodies, the different stages of recruitment, then the rules about what happens once you finally are on a college team -- doesn't anyone other than me feel like just throwing up their hands? It's maddening!

You have to be a sports attorney to sort through it all. (There's an idea: We need sports attorneys to tell you under what conditions your kid can play a sport, food attorneys to determine what you're allowed to eat, health insurance attorneys to tell you what your plan covers, car attorneys to tell you what and how much you're allowed to drive...)

I mean, if these people at ASA and NSA and NCAA etc. etc. don't want kids playing sports, why not just outlaw softball altogether?

Here's when you can play: Never.

Here's who you can play with: Nobody.

Problem solved.

Dont worry it gets more interesting as it goes along, just take a breath and take your time and read everything you can get your hands on, take as many visits as you can, attend as many clinics at the colleges she wants to attend as you can afford. Talk to coaches once your on Campus, Ive never had a coach that wasnt willing to offer advice and information.

Found this on another board.....Best News I've had in awhile!!!:yahoo:

We just got back from the ASA Annual Convention in Schreveport Louisiana where we spent 7 days filled with all aspects of softball meetings and events. The following changes were made that impact Girls Fastpitch in 2011 and beyond:

-College players will STILL BE ALLOWED in the 18U A division (not allowed in the 18u Gold or 18u B age divisions)

- 14U A & B age division will CONTINUE to pitch from 40 feet. It was voted against changing the pitching distance from 40ft to 43ft.

The 18 GOLD National Tournament will be moved up a week into July. The tournament will now be played and completed on the weekend that includes the last Saturday in July. All other age divisions Championship Tournaments will continue to be played and end on the first weekend in August.

-A berth will be awarded to the top 2 finishing teams in the 18U Gold Territorial National Championship Tournament for the following year. This follows the same format of all other age divisions of play for the Territorial Championship Tournaments.

-The 18u Gold National Tournament will now rotate everyother year to Oklahoma city (previously rotated to Oklahoma City every third year).
