College recruit question

Just curious, do college coaches talk to each other about potential recruits? Basically once you get on one coaches radar will other coaches learn about you from them or do they try and keep it a secret? I'm assuming there are both extremes and some in the middle so I'm asking as a majority.

Sometimes, but usually not, they are all competing to get the best recruits to come to their program. When I was coaching college softball, I did help athletes that did not meet my requirements and pass their info onto other coaches where I felt they would fit in and could compete.

I have heard of sandbagging, keeping things mum and more interestingly, there are a few coaches that have been in the game long enough where if coaches from both schools are offering a kid, they will discuss their offers and make sure their offers are equal rather than one up each other

Those are some nice coaches lol. As a head softball coach I was not showing my hand at all. I wanted the best of the best. Plus your job depends on it.

While at a TN camp last year, Coach Ralph Weekly answered a question similar to this. He said if he really liked a recruit, but that position is filled, he sent them somewhere else that doesn't involve the SEC. Their Christmas camp he mentioned, he did have other SEC colleges to help out since they have so many girls.

The majority of coaches will discuss them with some other coaches. There are a lot of variables such as personal relationships (good and bad) and whether they are a direct competitior (same conference and/or echelon).

A recruiting coordinator for a high-level team told me this past weekend that some coaches plan Sunday after comparing notes Saturday night with other schools. There are a lot of games going on at the same time and they can't watch them all. The good ones have ways to make the best use of their limited time.
