Contributing Freshmen

I was wondering if any teams have many freshmen on their varsity making a strong contribution and how many of them are travelball players?

All four of the freshman that made the Greenville squad are travelball players. They have not been huge contributors yet, but they are definately keeping the pressure on the current starters.

Copley is starting 3 freshman on varsity-all played travel ball for the past 3 or 4 years.

Elllwood city lincoln in western PA starts 2 freshmen and 5 sophomores and 5 of the 7 are travel ballers.

My dd is the only Freshman that made her high school team-Mechanicsburg. She is the starting pitcher and last night broke the high school record for the most strike outs in a game, she had 17 strike outs. She plays for 14U Buckeye Heat Clark Team.

Congratulations Emily! This young lady is the real deal. She is one of the best I've seen at her age and she is only going to get better.

Does anybody know anything about the freshman on Hilliard Darbys varsity team? I heard she hit a grandslam in Wednesdays game. Now thats what I call contributing. I think she is also their starting center fielder?

Mount Gilead starts four freshmen, all travel ball players.

Thats the only ball she hit all year including scrimmages, all k's prior to that. Pitching wasn't stellar yesterday. Still a grand slam though.

More younger players/freshman are beginning to contribute in every sport. ? As more females play select sports the skill level continues to rise. ? ?I think this will level out eventually and once again the seniors will have the upper hand, ?of course there are exceptions to every rule. ? But the freshman playing competitive ball now and who continues to do so will have an advantage over the freshman who plays travel ball. ? Right now there are still many older players who have not played on travel teams and are not as capable as freshman who have. ? Every year there are more teams and more places for players to get experience so there will be fewer older players without travel experince. ? ?Then it will become more difficult for freshmen to make an impact on a good program. ? ?

not shur I was not there just heard bases were loaded and she got a great hit. Dont know much about her. Heard she was struggling in the hitting department. hopefully for her the confidence is back.

My freshmen are contributing to my gray hair, elevated blood pressure, and contemplation of retiring from HS softball!!! LOL

Sounds pretty much like a discription of the average softball dad. ;D

All but one of my freshman are playing varsity ball for their high school teams.

However, one in particular is contributing big this year--Leah Sostre. I usually don't like to point out individual contributions, but she's having an awesome year so far and I'm so proud of her! Last night she went 3-4 with a single, double and triple and 3 rbi's. Last week she hit the game winning run in and went 2-3. She plays for Garfield Hts with her sister Brittney Sostre, who is also a powerful hitter (junior). Leah plays first, outfield and center for her team. Keep an out for her! Her team is 4-0 thus far and 1-0 in conference play. ;D

I see Cara Longworth is catching for Jackson varsity..Great great kid,but her dad lacks any golf ability,kinda like myself!! lol

In the GMC, it seems that the freshmen on Middletown's team are making a big impact for that team as well as those at Colerain. ?Most of them are tops in hitting and some are doing well pitching also. ?You go girls! ?Good Luck this season to everyone!

I have to second Deep Blue's comment about this young lady. During the tryouts in the fall, I knew this young lady was very talented. ?Throughout fall practice, she just got stronger and stronger and in the winter tournament at GFOD, she was downright dominant. ?She is one of the best I have ever seen at this age level and I have seen many talented pitchers. ?If she keeps on improving at her current pace, she will be downright scarey by her senior season. ?To top it all off, she and her family are also some of the nicest people I have ever been involved with.

The Lady Magics have a very talented crew of fresh(wo)men in their lineup and truth be told, they have heart, are coachable, and come through at crunchtime. ;D

If they made it - they deserve the recognition and support of all involved. You don't have to like it - but you do have 6 weeks left to deal with it - why let it ruin the best years of your player's life by dwelling on it?
