counts and averages

Is there anything out there that suggests batting averages based on what the count is? Some of my players are taking way too many pitches and putting themselves in a hole with pitcher's counts. I would like to show them something concrete when I discuss this.

Thanks

Mark,
I have something somewhere, that I found on the internet. I'll try and remember where it was, or if I made a copy of it.

If Shayne can't find it. I have a pitching chart that shows the same info that I responded to on the pitching post that tracks the count and what type and location of the pitch. The pitching coach or the person calling the pitches uses it to call pitches, but it is a tool the offense can use in reverse. Like Shayne I downloaded it off one of the many pitching sites I view so I would have to scan and e mail it to you. Unless I get lucky enough to find out where I downloaded it from.

OK, I have your e mail address, so I will scan and send. I will look at it when I get home to see if it still has the web page I printed it off of. Most of my info is on my computer at home. I have problems on the lap top on cutting and pasting so I don't even try.

This article is very interesting. ?I can't help but believe though that the typical average hitter feels more confident with a hitter's count. ?

My hitters are going through a self-fulfilling prophecy. ?Against even or worse teams they really attack the pitches. ?Against the above average teams they take more strikes and face many two strike counts. ?They either watch strike 3 go by which is my biggest pet peeve, swing at an obvious ball, or hit something very weakly.

Yeah, the Hits Per Strike graph is the one I find most interesting. Seems to imply that the deeper they get into the count the more likely they are to get a hit (off of a pitch thrown for a strike).

Interesting , very interesting--I swear my kid has never had a hit with less than 2 strikes . She goes deep in the count nearly every at bat. Since she leads off that can be good and bad depending on your philosophy. I'm more a hack that 1st good fastball mentality. (baseball thinking? ) I'm not joking I bet 75% of the time she hits with 2 strikes. For those of the "I want my leadoff to see a lot of pitches" camp she would be a dream , as a parent , its Prilosec and valium. MD BTW she does hit pretty well, would she be even better if she would quit watching strikes ?????

Look at the post that Ringer just made on the web site for pitching on the Excel Post. He did me a favor. This is where I got my pitching charts that some of you asked for. You can download them now without me sending them to you. Thanks Ringor. You can use these to look at counts by batters from an offensive stand point. We use them for pitchers, but they can help you chart where in the count you batter hit the ball.
