Dead Bat??!!

At our game the other day a girl hit the ball off center twice resulting in a pop-up and a grounder. Afterwards the coach who is always looking for some kind of excuse told the girl she didn't like the sound of her bat and that it was dead and not to use it any more and it's a new Catalyst! To say this distressed the girl was an understatement as this was her first composite and she's so attachted to it she probably sleeps with the thing. Coach obviously failed to notice one of the more skilled girls bouncing balls off the outfield fence with it during soft toss in pre game warm-ups. :-X

Maybe have her swing a different bat for a couple at bats. My dd is swinging a synergy, coach told her it was dead. Handed it down to younger dd, she hit hard with it. Oldest one swinging it again and hitting just fine. Nothing more from coach when she started hitting again.

It's really a matter of an inexperienced coach who is about impossible to be shown otherwise when she gets an idea in her head. I didn't say anything to the coach and later just let the girl know that her bat is certainly not dead and at the worst just save it for travel season when she won't have to deal with this coach.

Is this the same coach that won't let the girls wear metal cleats? :D

High school coaching at its best.Yea. Heres one for you, top of 7, tying run at third 2 outs. The hitter has a sac. bunt and a fly out during her previous at bats. He subs a girl in to hit for her who hasn't even reached the field all season let alone faced a live pitcher in 12 games. 3 pitches, K ,game over. We lose 1-0. Thats what were dealing with over here. Thanks for letting me vent.

Yes it is! She always tells things other than they are. She told me that nearly all the coaches in our conference told her they wouldn't allow metal but it's sure been otherwise. I guess someone forgot to tell her they all changed their minds. She also tells people she played for Ohio State but Kalafatis never heard of her and I also heard the same from Linda's predecessor, Gail Davenport so I guess it's not supposed to be a lie when playing club ball at OSU is a half truth. This woman could be a career politician!

Been there, done that! Two years ago it was 7th inning down by 1 and bases loaded, 2 out. It was DD's turn at bat who hadn't hit anything less than a double all game and averages .510 and she's pulled to let a girl who bats UNDER .100 take her turn so 3 quick strikes and we went home. Anyone else want a turn venting?

Our coach has never had a winning season and usually only has around 3 or 4 wins a year but she claims she always has a successful season with all the positive things she teaches the girls. You don't want to know what the girls say to that behind her back!

It sounds to me like she hit the grounder off the end of the bat. Composites make a "thud" sound when you hit the ball off the end. It's a very dead sound. If it had been wood, the bat would have snapped in half.

;Dwe've had a game or 2 that we thought that all of the bats were dead. We were wrong, it was just the batters. ;D

I am not surprised. There are alot of folks out there coaching that really have no business being there. There are many great coaches but I have never seen a sport with so much substandard instruction than softball. I had a parent that their kid never turns when pitching she just bowls it go off and tell me that is how it is supposed to be done that all these college pitchers dont need and I quote "all that fancy stuff"
