Get a jump on the 2008 spring season by joining the 2007 HCAC Chamption Defiance College Softball Team at our 6th Annual Winter Clinic Series on Sunday February 10th. ?The clinic offers players the opportunity to refine their talents and learn new skills and drills. ?There will be a short lecture in each session on proper fundamentals.
The Defiance College Softball team and coaches will offer their assistance throughout the clinic. ?Special guest lecturer will be Sarah Tharp. ?Coach Tharp, a former standout Mount Union College pitcher and former Marietta College pitching coach, has years of experience coaching pitchers. ?During her playing career, Tharp was named to the All-OAC team 3 times, earning first team twice. ?She was also named to the All-Region team twice and during her senior season Sara was named a first team DIII All-American. ?She is currently the head coach at Hiland High School.
Pitching will focus on proper mechanics, including grips, leg drive, arm motion, and follow-through. ?There will be explanation, demonstration, and participation in drills to help increase speed and accuracy. ?Also there will be grouping by grade in an effort to combine like skills, ability, and age. ?Spaces are limited provide for regular feedback (limited to first 25 for each pitching session). ?Pitching sessions will be from Noon until 2:00 pm for Grades K-6 and 2:00-4:00 pm for Grades 7-12.
Hitting will also focus on proper hitting mechanics with explanation, demonstration, and participation in stations to aid in breaking down the swing. ?Also discussed with be proper technique for bunting and slapping. ?Hitting sessions will be from Noon-2:00 pm for Grades 7-12 and 2:00-4:00 pm for Grades K-6.
Cost of the clinic is $30.00 for one session and $45.00 for two sessions. ?All participants pre-registered by February 4th will receive a t-shirt. ?Walk-up registration will be accepted if there are openings available.
