The Dirt Dawgs Softball organization is an organization based out of Wayne and Holmes County, but is not limited to players from only those places. This past season we had teams at the 9u, 11u, 12u, and 14u levels. The remainder of this profile will specifically speak to the 02 team.

The Dirt Dawgs '02 softball team started out as an 8u team in 2011. As an 8u team the Dirt Dawgs won the OFC Spring Blast, the Thunder in the Valley Tournament in Athens, Galion Summer Slam (9u), Maysville Summer Slam in Zanesville, and the Rec League World Series in Zanesville. The Dawgs finished 33-3 that summer, with their only non-championship tournament a runner-up finish at the Dixie Days tournament in Mt. Vernon.
Moving up to 9u was a bit of a struggle for the Dirt Dawgs as they played the following year. However, they finished the season strong, including winning the Dover Fastpitch Classic to conclude their summer with a 12-15 record.
The following season as a 10u group, the Dirt Dawgs began the season by winning the Hall of Fame Indoor Classic in Canton. The Dirt Dawgs won the Brittany Anderson Memorial in Gahanna, and followed that up by winning the Capital City Bat Wars the next weekend. The Dawgs finished 2nd at Viking Elite Rally in the Valley as well as the NSA state tournament. The Dirt Dawgs finished 5th at GAPSS, before travelling to Williamsburg, VA for NSA Eastern Nationals, where they finished 2nd.
As am 11u team we played at Champion Early Bird, Lancaster Early Bird, Celine Wyatt Memorial, Capital City Bat Wars, Rally in the Valley, Loudonville (where we finished 3rd) and also included a 5th place finish as an 11u team at GAPSS. Overall the Dirt Dawgs went 30-17 for the summer and qualified for nationals.
This fall the Dirt Dawgs competed at the Central Ohio Fall Classic in Whitehall. The Dirt Dawgs went 4-0 over the day and earned a co-championship as the championship game was called due to darkness. Into the spring we won the Champion Early Bird Invite, won the Celine Wyatt Memorial. We also competed at Dayton Metro, NSA State Tournament, Loudonville, and Stingrays. We will be playing at the NSA A Eastern Nationals in Chattanooga, TN in late July.
Overall our group has 130-60 record over 5 seasons of playing together. A majority of our group has played all 5 seasons, while the entire team has been together for 3 years. It is very similar to a softball family. While proximity of the players would call us a B team, we certainly play an A Schedule. Most tournaments however will be within 3 hours of our home base in Shreve.

Most of our current players are multi-sport athletes, as are the coaches. Each coach is a current or former college athlete. For next season we are currently planning on 1 fall tournament (or some friendlies depending on fall sports schedules of our athletes), 1 indoor league in late February-March, as well as 8-9 tournaments outdoors, beginning at the end of April. Fundraising is used to help defray player fees, which are kept to a minimum.

Tryouts will be Saturday, August 8 at Hank Miller Fields in Shreve from 12-2. For GPS purposes 300 South Wells Street will get you to the park, although the park technically does not have an address. Rain date is Saturday, August 15 at the same time.
