Man if Northwestern don't get on the Sticks, I may not even get out of the Regional with my 16 Teams... Come on Northwestern..

Northwestern has done remarkably well considering their top pitcher, Amy Letourneau, has been out since early in the season. Kristen Wood really stepped up this year.

If anyone playing the the WCWS is reading this you need to seriously consider doing something truly antiheroic whilst you're on the big stage. The boos will rain down on you, you will make the plays of the day, and unlike the girl who has the highest or lowest _________________ (insert random stat here) over the span on the tournament no one who saw it happen will ever forget you.

Think about it. Ask a random person who had the highest on base percentage in the regional that Alabama is hosting right now sometime in July. Unless the person you ask is a blood relative of the person who pulled it off the odds of them remembering are slim to none.

A perfect example of the sort of thing I'm talking about is Rosie Ruiz. I have no idea who won the 1980 Boston Marathon, I remember Rosie Ruiz though. I remember 1 pitcher who pitched for the Twins in the mid to late 1980s, his name is Joe Niekro. I don't remember ever purposely watching a University of Colorado football game, I know all about the 5th down though. Who has ever watched figure skating? How many years has it been and EVERYONE still knows who Tanya Harding is. I could go on and on and on.

I really hope someone who takes the field today decides to do something great and make history. :D

I think your use and/or definition of antiheroic is off...

Webster antihero: a protagonist or notable figure who is conspicuously lacking in heroic qualities

Wiktionary: A protagonist who proceeds in an unheroic manner, such as by criminal means, via cowardly actions, or for mercenary goals.

Wikipedia: The antihero or antiheroine is a leading character in a film, book or play who lacks the traditional heroic qualities such as idealism, courage, nobility, fortitude, moral goodness, and altruism.

The sporting antihero is typically not a team player; challenges officialdom; sets financial gain over club loyalty; yet still acquires a large fan following, by way of his or her actualisation of the rebel archetype.

I think what you really want is someone to become infamous.

Yes.

What your post says, to me, is that an antihero has the same goals as a hero, the way they go about achieving those goals is just,,, questionable. To the masses at least, never to me.

I'm having a little trouble with your goals portion because having different qualities would seemingly preclude them from having the same aspirations. I think of an antihero as someone that does heroic deeds, but not for heroic reasons and/or in a heroic manner - someone like Barry Bonds when he was breaking HR records.

Ky struggles VS Ohio U but eeks out a 2-0 win. Not impressive at the plate for sure . 4 hits . Several former doom and stingray players in that matchup -- Pyles,Dorsey,Saxon,Hutchinson,Saxon all start for OU .

And Ms Brit Duncan homered VS LSU last in a odd game . Unless the radar gun was off none of the pitchers for either side hit 60 . Strange for sure . I fully understand not everyone is a flame thrower but when you see 3 throwers from programs at that level and no one is throwing any heat its just unusual . Maybe the gun was off .

I think Boston suffered the same fate Louisville did. We put up 9 runs but cant win a game? That tells you how suspect our pitching is.

Friday's Regional action

Most entertaining televised games of the day:
- Michigan over San Diego St 8-7 (9). Aztecs scored 3 runs in the 7th to tie it.
- LSU over Louisville 13-9. L'ville battled back in 5th from 1-7 to tie. Brit was 1-3 with HR and BB. Did Bouldersdad appear in a shot of the L'ville fans?
- SC Upstate over So.Ala 5-3 (8).

Teams needing clean underwear:
- #15 Mizzou after Bradley scored 5 runs in the 7th to send it to extra innings.
- Michigan (see above).
- Wisconsin squeaked by Albany 1-0 with as many errors as hits (2).

Notable teams on life support:
- Nebraska lost to Kansas 1-3.
- Auburn lost to ND St 2-5.
- So. Ala lost to SC Upstate 3-5 (8).

I'm expecting lots of good games today.
