I am just wondering if the college coaches actually read the info these services off, or do they just throw it away or delete it?

When my daughter was learning about the recruiting process, she asked a DI coach this very question. The reply was that they want to hear from the player, not some professionally orchestrated video and letters from some service. They wanted the "home" videos, and personal letteres and e-mails. That was the approach we took, and it worked out for her. She sat down and e-mailed coaches that were listed for tournaments we went to that she was interested in going to those schools, and send them our home made video and that got a lot of replies, as well as saving us some cash.:yahoo:

Very blunt. Two things to think about... scholarship money and effort:

If a kid has the money to spend on a recruiting service, she probably doesn't need precious athletic scholarship money.

If a kid is too lazy to do the recruiting process herself, coaches figure that she is too lazy to commit to 4 years of college softball.

Is this the message you really want to send a prospective college coach? By doing this stuff yourself, it shows a coach that you are willing to bust your tail to get something, and how well you go about it shows organizational skills - two very important traits needed for college softball life.

The response I received from a college coach when asked this question was this - I'm paraphrasing, but you'll get the point.

Whether the player is good or not, these services are paid to say good things about them. They're not going to get paid if they say bad things. So they say good things about everyone. That's a little suspect.

Agree with everything everyone has already said. It is funny that most college coaches when receiving these recruiting services video sit and watch them with the volume turned down. As one coach tolded me "How many times can one listen to Eye of the Tiger, while a kid performs on tape?!" They want to see the kid in person, send them a schedule, go to their camps, etc....

If they would play Led Zeppelin or The Who or the Rolling Stones, I would keep the sound up. But I'm not interested in hearing Modern Rap or Today's Hits or Modern Country.

Another common problem I heard was that the "recruiting services" have a tendency to send a whole packet ( maybe 30 or more ) profiles to a coach at one time. Typically coaches don't want to take the time / or have the time to sift through all of those. Paying big money for something that may end up in the circular file. JMHO.

I agree Joe, Led or even maybe some Rush would make it more appealing.
