As long as the parents dont have a problem with it and voted for it, i would go along with it. I f you still feel uncomfortable , spring for pizza or something somewhere occasionally for the team while youre out of town.

The Buckeye Heat pays for the room of any Head Coach who does not have a DD on the team.

Wizards pay the head coach and expenses for one out of town tournament. Team fundraisers need to pay for the rest of the out of town tournaments. This is for a non-parent or parent coach.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a coach being paid. The pay isn't much, it may not even cover gas expenses when you figure travel to practices and tournaments.
Some programs pay more than what we do.....most pay less.

We made it a standard to put in the budget for our rec travel team coaches last year. It's the least parents can do for people coaching, who do not have kids playing. Nothing wrong with it.

My take as a parent, I was always for bucking up for a non parent coaches hotel. They do enough with all the time they spend with our kids, the LEAST we could do is help offset their costs.

I agree--it is appropriate for a coach to have the hotel room paid for. Thank you for dedicating your time to helping our daughters be better people.

K, that feedback makes me feel much better. I was worried. Like I said I try as much as possible to share a room with a dad if they go and let the girls share a room.

I've had the same team for about 8 years now. We are a small one team organization and in the past trust me we where the cheapest team to play on around, and we typically did 10 tourneys. We have since cut back to 7 as the girls have moved up through the years and gotten older.

I've spent a lot of money through the years with gas, hotels and meals, and a lot of my guy friends just don't understand why I do it. I tell them for the love of the game and also to see the kids succeed. In the last four years players from our small one organization team have earned over $140,000 in scholarship money to play softball. Plus we have several other girls undecided where they will be playing at as well.

No big deal. They are trying to show appreciation for all that you have to put up with. Graciously except and move on. Just imagine every comment about playing time, every whine about the lineup, every time you have to carry all the gear, phone calls and emails as a couple bucks earned and you can justify it in your mind. In fact you may want your meals included - lol

Ok - so I have a question to those orgs that pay for the non-parent coaches. How do you pay for those coaches? Do you have fundraisers? Do you charge more in fees for those teams? Etc.

I would feel bad not doing something for our coach. I would also feel bad if our coach did not accept a gift from the parents. A coach without a daughter on the team puts so much of their own time and money into this travel thing. If you have a good one, they also teach life lessons. The least we can do as parents is pay for a weekend or a monetary gift at the end of the season to help offest the coach's cost. Dazed, parents appreciate what you do for them and their DD's.

I'm not so certain I'd except it unless as aforementioned they were coaching without a DD on the team. I have a DD on the team I coach and won't take it. I'll take the money and put it towards some type of equipment purchase. Don't get me wrong, my checking account says I should. It's a tremendous honor to get that sort of thing paid for by the team/parents. Now if a sponsor pays for some or all of the rooms... different story. And no, I haven't found those types of sponsors yet:(.

I think if it is a non parent coach, that they all should get a stipend for hotel and gas. It is such a HUGE investment of time and energy!

I wish we could pay them all!
