Hitting and Hitters Discussion Early Season Hitting

As a middle school coach my team will be indoors a lot after the team reports for practice in early March. One of the things the players don't see enough of is game speed pitching. I have some of the girls playing winter indoor 6 on 6 but the basketball players come in behind since they haven't seen live pitching in a while. We do our tee work, soft toss, etc but I am looking for some drills , equipment whatever to get them ramped up for live pitching and I know many pitching coaches absolutely don't want starting pitchers to throw batting practice so I am considering buying a indoor pitching machine either a Jugs Lite Flite or one of those machines that throws golf ball sized whiffle ball. Has anyone have opinions on the whiffle ball machines? So OFC member coaches what do you do or use in your indoor practices to help your school ball players get ready for the start of the season?

Forgo the wiffle ball machines....you get what you pay for. By that, I mean the attraction is their low price but in return you dont get a quality piece of equipment to use for live practice.

The wiffle balls are very erratic in flight and the machines are prone to stoppages or breakdown due to the usual plastic construction or nylon parts. All in all, Im sure you'd be dissatisfied with one. especially if you plan on using it a great deal.

Bear May, Thanks for the link. I wanted to send that to the girls so they could get some BP in over the Christmas break. Is this the RT version? I know I was getting 500' plus on one version. I think that penguin was doing the cream or the clear or both.

we use Lite Flite machines with the sponge like softballs. Gives them a shot at true speeds, sizes, and ball movements. Teaches them to react to the ball without flinching and excessive blinking (for our 10U).

Interesting....but I can only get 838 on it... Probably not rated for the younger audiences though (although now a days I guess that's considered mild).
