Earn to Play or Pay to Play

Recently over heard a conversation, where one parent was saying that all girls paid the same and should play the same amount of time. I found this upsetting because I feel that every girl must earn playing time. Any thoughts?

And once again we see the profound effects of making everyone the same so we do not hurt their feelings. I am so NOT looking forward to the time when this generation of "feel good" kids reaches 30 and have a reality check in the work force. . . :lmao:

Just because you pay doesn't give anyone the ability to play. . .JMHO;&

Just to play a little bit of devils advocate here (good chance this will derail the topic also), but isn't ONE of the reasons that most teams keep a small roster is playing time? IF coaches didn't have to worry about juggling playing time wouldn't more of you like to have 14-15 girls on your roster instead of 11-12. Add a player that would only be used to run bases, or someone you could bring in as a true pinch hitter, or maybe a player that you could insert specifically as a bunter. It seems to me that the 11-12 player roster is something of a concession to equalizing playing time.
Just throwing that one out there

I agree with pool play to get kids some playing time. Then on sunday go with the team that can get you in the championship game. But often you see kids pout if they do not get to play the positon they want to play or if they have to sit out some on Saturday so
another team player can get some playing time.

My daughter prefers to play 3rd, but for her travel/h.s. team she is called upon to play other positions, for what is best for the team. Also, that sometimes requires her to sit the bench so others get to play, or maybe she is not playing her best and someone else is more deserving of that position. She is just as supportive on the bench as she is on the field.
That is what a being a team member is all about!

It all depends what the teams goals are.... The California teams That regularly go to nationals and do well, have upwards of 18 girls playing on their teams....
