Just started using this product in the last 30 days and really like the impact so far. Anyone else familiar with this product and have an opinion?

In my opinion using the gloves allows you to build the muscle memory in your hand path and we have about 50 kids who have used them over the years and they swear by them that it helps their hand path.

The weight is on the back of the hand and there is 12 ounces for each hand...there are two pockets/ sleeves on each hand and there is one 2 ounce weight and one 4 ounce one in each sleeve / pocket.

They usually sell for about $37 to $44 dollars with shipping...

Google it, I think they come out of CA. I got them 4 days after I ordered on line. As Howard stated ( he was the one that told me about them) They not only help in hitting , but when my dd is doing throwing drills, she wears them. She wears them in the cage and during hitting practice. I don't know if its the gloves , or not, but her hand speed is quicker and she is hitting with more power.

I have had my DD using them for about 2 years now. We have used them in throwing drills and in pitching drills primarily until this past summer. We started using them with a hitting regiment towards the ends of last season and boy did they make a difference.

My DD has always been a decent contact hitter, but was really lacking the power to regularly hit the extra bases. We worked hitting 150 balls a day with the gloves (12oz in each hand) and another 50-150 (depending on the day) with just her regular batting gloves. After two weeks she had developed her upperback enough that she started driving the ball pretty well. Then with a little guidance from Howard Carrier (Thank You again Howard) a small mechanical tweak and viola, she is hitting the fence at least once a game.

I highly reccomend training with these gloves, just be sure to start light while doing any throwing exercises (protect the rotator) and listen to the muscles between the shoulder blades when hitting. When they start to get sore, take the gloves off before you continue your workout. You can't make it all happen at once, it takes time. JMHO

P.S. They have them at Dick's Sporting Goods, but you'll find them cheaper online. I got mine at the link in the post above, they're located in North Ridgeville, OH. and they are very nice to deal with.

Sounds like a great idea to strengthen the muscles - I wonder about the other ligaments and such. We were told by an Ortho not to use ankle weights because of the negative effects to the joints. This is probably the same premise. Just a thought.

http://www.baseball-catcher.com/strength/longtossart.htm

This was the article I read in 1999 that got our son started. We had been doing it for 2 years prior to the article and then the NCAA finally endorsed it and pretty much everyone has gotten on board. Our friend is a OR doctor and surgeon and recommended it to keep from having problems. I think like everyone some people think if two ounces are good 12 is better and maybe even a pound would even be better...common sense must be used and there is a lot of information on the net these days.

Just a side thought the military requires our troops to carry over 80 pounds of gear and it is only recommended to carry 75 pounds by doctors and engineers because of the compression of the vertebrae. That debate has been going on since Waterloo and you can check the history books out. There is a book about the tools man has made and how we use leverage and I can not recall the name of it however it gave an example with how we hooked up oxen to a cart and that the yoke was high and then when we lowered it and balanced the load we could haul more weight efficiently.

It also had a quote about you can tell how man's mind thinks as to a society and its tools they make...we discovered how to kill our fellow man first with a sword and then figured out how to plow the ground with it afterward!

They size just like batting gloves. So whatever size of batting glove is common would be the best bet.

Those gloves sound nice. What is a good age to start using them?

Get the correct size for her hand and then consider age, size and strength.

The weights are inter changeable so you can start out with as little as 2 ounces on one hand or both hands and increase as you wish.

Also read the directions and recommendations for long toss program.
