Errors

As an example, throw from 3rd to first.
When does the error go to who threw the ball vs the fielder.
If the ball is above the knees and they drop it, throw or catch error
If its above the shoulders but still at head level.
If they have to reach how far off line.
I have seen throws that hit fielder in the waist and is dropped and error goes to who threw the ball, if fielder fields the ball digging out of the dirt as long as the out is made no error or if they don't dig it out error on the throw.
I guess the question is when is it the fielders vs who threw the ball on who gets the error.
Just trying to figure how to score and who gets what.

As a general rule, if the throw is in the dirt and not dug out by 1B, error goes to the thrower. If the throw causes the 1B to come off the bag, error goes to the thrower. If the throw is above the 1B's head and she can't get to it with reasonable effort or if it causes her to go up and come back down too late, error goes to the thrower. Pretty much everything else ... i.e., balls thrown that don't hit the ground and can be caught by the 1B with reasonable effort, error is going to be charged to 1B if she can't catch it. Does that answer all of your questions?

JWB covered it pretty well, although "ordinary effort" is the official terminology. 3B to 1B is a long enough throw that a 1B should be able to catch just about anything on the fly they can reach without losing contact with the base, with the exception of a throw that requires a reach into the B-R's path. Shorter throws from P and 2B require more accuracy because 1B doesn't have as much time to read and react.

If a fielder makes an errant throw after making an extraordinary catch of the batted ball, it's a hit and only charge an error if a runner advances an additional base because of it.

So damn true. Is that sad and ridiculous at the same time?

Even the majors are like that.

The error always seems to go to the one making less......LOL

In Detroit JV always gets the benefit of the doubt when pitching. If in doubt it is an error on the fielder. And conversely, Cabrera gets a hit ever time he gets on 1st....regardless of the circumstances. It is the same in baseball.

BTW - I thought I was being a genius when I had the mom who keeps score for my team keep all that stuff. That was just 1 less thing I had to remember. But then she remarked that a couple of parents wanted to look at the books to calculate their DD's average or pitching stats........LOL......so I have to carry the book again. Been down that round a few times and it never ends well.

My DD play's 1st and her thought is if my glove touches it its on me, but when she play 3rd and 1st misses a one hopper she blames herself. So I guess it can go both ways here.

LOL depends on who's scoring.
It was my opinion too from coachjwb.
I have seen some pretty creative scoring this spring.
Thanks
