One of the top prep softball pitchers in the history of Southwest Virginia is getting her shot at managing a high school team. Former Coeburn High and King University star Hannah Light was recently named the new coach of the John Battle softball squad. Light replaces Eric Senter, who resigned at the end of the season. Senter coached the Lady Trojans for three seasons and compiled a 42-24-1 record. Light has served as pitching coach at Wise Central for the past three years. She was one of the state’s top pitchers in all four of her years playing for the former Coeburn High. She pitched three years at King, where she was all-conference all three years, a two-time conference pitcher of the year and a two-time all-region pitcher, among many other honors. “I’m really looking forward to competing,” Light said. “I’m looking forward to competing with a team that I’m guiding and that’s doing things my way. “It’s been great here. The John Battle community has been great and very supportive.” CUMBERLAND CHAMPIONSHIP? J.I.
