YEAH posted the question......... "My daughter is a freshman at Hoover this year and just wanted to know if we had to take 2 players from each team in the federal league to complete an All-Star roster : Who would you pick from each team ? Im not talking about position, just all around good players to represent the federal league.Let see how much knowledge you federal league posters have !!!!" They asked for 2, so I picked my 2.

Anotherdad..........You are right, VERY hard to pick just 2, not only from Hoover, but Jackson, Lake, Perry, and the rest of the Federal League as well.

You wanted my reason........well here THEY are......

Plain and simple, This should be the ONLY response needed, BUT I will elaborate just for you....I believe Alex is a better all around softball player. In my opinion, Alex is in the top 3 BEST softball players in the state, (not only in her 2010 class, which I feel she is the #1 player in Ohio).

So the following, I hope, will satisfy your question as to why I chose Alex, over the other players on Hoovers team........

1. She has size
2. She has power
3. She has speed
4. She can play a multitude of different positions (And be good at ALL of them)
5. She can catch and throw as good as anyone else on the team
6. She can run (not only can she move to field a ball but can run the bases as well.....AGGRESSIVE)
7. She can hit for average
8. She can hit for power
9. She can lay down a bunt and beat out the throw
10. She's a LEFT HANDED BATTER with POWER!!!

She is as good as ANY of the girls already going to D1 schools and she's ONLY a sophomore...... Want more???

11. She is a 4.0 student
12. She has a heart of gold, she CARES about her teammates not about herself
13. She is coachable
14. She has the desire to push herself to get better ... (that is a sign of a special athlete)
15. She has the ability to make the kids around her play at a higher level
16. She plays softball because she LOVES it......NOT because she wants her name on the internet or in the newspaper
17. She leads by example
18. She puts added pressure on herself to continually make herself better
19. She wants to win so bad she would sacrifice her personnal gains for ANYONE as long as they are striving for the ultimate goal....Championship(s)....OHSAA States or Travel ball States or Nationals....She wants to win and will do everything in her power to accomplish that dream!
20. Like I stated above......She wants the TEAM to win first!!! That's what puts Alex at the TOP of MY list....

There is absolutely NO DISRESPECT to any of the other players on Hoovers team, they ALL deserve credit for their accomplishments in education and athletics...................and like YOU said.....
"Pretty tough to pick only 2 when they have what, 5-6 D1 players on the roster but Marcantonio over Lilley (or maybe even a couple of others)? No disrespect to Alex but I'd love to hear the reasoning behind that choice."

You said, "No disrespect to Alex but I'd love to hear the reasoning behind that choice." ............... Well you know what, to me, that was disrespectful!

I think that Gerber should be on the list, Houtz should be on the list, Lilley should be on that list, Russ, Riccardi, and Linderman too.....BUT....The post only asked for 2, so I gave MY opinion................. I just hope my 20 reasons are good enough for you! If you don't like MY picks then post your own OPINION.....That's all the post was asking for!

I'm not sure if YOUR daughter goes to Hoover, but I'd take a wild guess that she does.....Be Happy she's on a team loaded with talent....Don't worry about who I think is the BEST player on the team. If they play together, Hoover has the ability to be the 2008 State Champs.......NOW......What a TEAM accomplishment that would be....... Good Luck!!!

Best of Luck to ALL the girls in the Federal League and around the State

We have known Alex for quite some time and yes she is quite the young lady. We have also known most of the players mentioned here, and they are great also.

Do not understand the need to "Slam" a player because of her age or grade. Obviously you have not seen her play?

Megan was mentioned, great player and has earned a great reputaion. Age and Grade has nothing to do with that!

Wolfpack, The best player in the class of 2010????? WOW!!!! I can think of a few girls on your Wolfpack team and other teams who might disagree with that.

It's just his opinion. It's a free world and he is allowed to have one.

Kind of makes it tough for anyone else to add their opions when the first one gets this much attention.

I too was surprised at his opinion. But it would be a good choice. I think that her being able to play many other positions helps. Gerber really can only play a couple, same with simpson, and lilley.

what about boardman or fitch? anyone know anything abotu them. boardman used to field some pretty quality teams.

So tell me, what "few" are better? Since you seem to know the team so well, tell me who is better and why you think they are better.

I will agree with you that there are some very talented girls on that Wolfpack team...But if you had to list 6 girls....Alex is #1 and then the rest would fall in place #2, #3, #4, #5, and #6. That is the way it works....someone has to be 1 and someone has to be listed last. Yet ALL very capable of getting a scholarship.....

That does not take ANYTHING away from the rest of the girls on the team. In the 2010 class, on the Wolfpack, we have 5 other girls beside Alex. The nice thing about that class and that team is this.....I would be willing to wager a bet, that ALL 6 of those girls, get a scholarship to play softball! So whether I think Alex is #1 or #6 doesn't really matter, because in the end, they will have ALL received some type of scholarship from college.

As an Organization....That is our top priority to get the girls on our team to be seen and to help them get to college.

Well again, just my opinions.....

Sorry to the person that started this thread....Never was meant to turn this into anything about the Wolfpack. So lets try to get back to the "All-Star" team of the Federal League...

We had some people respond.....but NO one wants to put names on the board......... ::) ::)

I've seen MANY, MANY, MANY girls play games but to make a list.......I don't think I can do that. I don't know enough names of girls from around the state to even begin.

When you coach travel ball and high school in an area like Jamie does, I think you see kids from a different prespective. ?I'm sure he gave his opinion based on knowlege that only a person coaching both would have. ?

EXCARKUNN: See my earlier post.

she plays for hoover and goodpasture is hoover's coach. i don't think wolfpack ever indicated he was goodpasture. and i know he is not here parent.

any thoughts from anyone else on this?

funny that in the only prediction that Lake's two were both pitchers.

It's hard to tell with Perry as they lost so many seniors from last years team. But I know there are many good players coming up. Also, Jackson's selections were interesting to me also.

No I am not her High School coach that would be Jerry Goodpasture at Hoover, and No I am not her Mom or Dad, and No I am not her Summer Coach That would be Phil, Todd and Jim.

My name is Jamie Wolff and I started the Ohio Wolfpack. YES, I am a high School Coach in Stark County (Massillon), and YES, I would claim Alex as my daughter (but her Mom and Dad might not like that ;) ), YES, I have coached a Wolfpack Team since 1999 but I ONLY had the opportunity to be the head coach for Alex for 1 year :'(, and that was when she was 11 or 12.

So do I know Alex.....YES!

So like Woolfman said.......
Let's get back to the topic...........
I agree with you about Jackson's Picks.......I think there could be more too....They are LOADED!
K. Ashbrook, M. Richards, C. Longworth, A. Dunn......All very deserving players to be mentioned at Jackson as well as the 2 I posted in my original post.

I guess there just are not too many people on OFC that want to post about the Federal League. I really thought this post would get more responses with different players..... Well guess I was wrong!!

Jamie I would agree with you on your picks !!! I think I would put Brina ( the lefty centerfielder) for McKinley, Douglas graduated. I dont know much about Fitch or Boardman but I know they got talent up that way.

As stated in other posts, Jackson and North Canton could have several different players on this list but it only ask for 2. The federal league is full of talented players. So I hope I didnt offend anybody. If I did , I apoligize.
