Female vs Male Coaches

This is just my opinion, but I would say it is a residual effect of a long tradition of more men being encouraged to participate in sports than women. ?When I was in school, there were a limited number of sports a girl could play, or you could be a cheerleader for the boys teams (no offense to cheerleaders). ?I believe it is just a matter of time until more women are coaches, ?and can't wait to see the first woman coach a boys hs team, lol! ;D ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

i also believe that some women are taking care of the kids at home if they have started their families. just my opinioin. but i do see more and more younger women finishing college and getting involved in coaching and training.

I fully agree with hermom.

Mom's are taking care of sibs outside of the field while dad and dd are busy on the field. I am one of a sad minority of female coaches, and I am mom to a 3 year old son. I also happen to have an incredibly understanding and supportive husband who makes it possible for me to take part in this sport I love all summer, some fall, and a bit of winter. I am excited to see more of the younger players get into coaching, whether it be as head coaches or assts, because I truly believe we bring a unique perspective to the game we played. This does not take anything away from the many excellent male coaches, just strengthens it. JMHO.

I myself have worked with both a male and female coach. And honestly each have there own quailties., the female coach knowes how to talk to us and the male coach knows how to put us in line. I think it's a great appouruinty to work with both a male and female coach.

Wow! ?These are all really great responses, and very interesting. ?I think many good points were made. ?Overall, it doesn't really seem to make a difference if the coach knows the game, knows his/her girls, and knows how to have fun ....and winning doesn't hurt either. ? My DDs have had both male and female coaches, and my oldest really liked the lady coaches, especially for pitching. ? But both have had some really excellent male coaches too (and some not so good ones). ?I won't name specifics to spare the feelings of the less than great ones, but I hope all them from school ball to travel ball know how much their efforts meantt to my DDs and our family. ?We have had tons of fun with this game and both girls have developed so much. ?It is never easy being a coach, but my hat goes off to all those MALE AND FEMALE who give of themselves to do it.

THANK YOU!! ? ;D

One last thing to add: ?Many players who responded seemed to like having a male/female coaching combo. ?My DD had such a combo in middle school and they were very effective for many of the reasons the players named. ? Food for thought for coaches, the kids know a thing or two themselves. ?If you listen, they can teach too. ?Props to the DDs. ;)
